Abstract
A leisure boat is made up of an inner wall (b) and an outer wall (a) which are spaced to form a hollow double wall construction and made of rigid synthetic polymer. Alternatively, a plurality of non-communication hollow portions may be independently prepared at any one or more of a bow section 2; bottom 4; side sections 5 and 6; and stern section 3 of the boat. The boat as a whole may be prepared by blow molding the synthetic polymer. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Leisure boat made of synthetic polymer
This invention relates to a leisure boat made of synthetic polymer.
A leisure boat utilised for sport is generally made of rubber or wood. Rubber boats generally take the form of a hollow bag filled with air. When such a boat is damaged air leaks out to decrease the buoyancy and the boat deforms, thus shipping water until the boat sinks. Boats made of wood are not only too difficult to make with a double wall construction but also need a number of constructional steps so that their cost is high. Moreover, wood is liable to be damaged and the life of the boat is accordingly relatively short.
This invention sets out to provide a leisure boat having a double wall construction made of rigid synthetic polymer whereby even if the outer wall becomes damaged, the boat does not sink, and further sets out to manufacture such a boat by blow molding.
According to this invention, there is provided a leisure boat comprising an inner wall and an outer wall which are spaced to form a hollow double wall construction, the inner and outer walls being made of rigid synthetic polymer.
Alternatively, independent i.e. non-communicating hollow double wall portions may be located at any one or more of: bow section; bottom; side section and stern section of the boat. The boat as a whole may be prepared by blow-modling a synthetic resin.
The invention will be further described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a leisure boat emboding the invention;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section taken along a line ll-ll of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view taken along a line Ill-Ill in Figure 1.
The boat shown in the accompanying drawings has a double-wall hollow construction having an outer shell or wall (a) and an inner shell or wall (b).
The double wall hollow construction may be made as a single unitary construction or may be made as a plurality of independent parts. For example, hollow double-wall parts can be prepared independently for any one or more of a bow 2, a stern 3, a bottom 4 and both sides 5 of the boat.
With the boat as shown even if an opening became formed through the outer wall (a) of the boat (by collision or the like) water would enter only into spaces between the outer wall (a) and the inner wall (b) constituting the double wall construction, and would not enter into the space inside the inner wall (b). Thus, the boat does not sink although its draught may increase.
Even when the boat is capsized or filled with water due to wave-action, it does not sink, because it has a sufficient buoyancy due to the double-wall hollow construction. Also, if independent hollow portions are present at any one or more of the bow 2, stern 3 and bottom 4 then, even if the boat were wrecked, so long as either one of the hollow portions is not breached, the ship would not sink.
The boat can in fact, be used as a life preserver.
Moreover, the boat is made of rigid synthetic polymer which is harder and lighter than wood and can be made more readily at lower costs.
In the drawing, reference numerals 6 designate legs made of rubber which are used to support the boat in an upside-down position or to stack one upon the other a plurality of boats, or to mount the boat on the roof of a motor car.
A seat 7 is formed at the stern, and a live well or a fish preserver (not shown) can be formed in the central portion of the boat. Furthermore, a spacing for housing fishing tackle, handbags etc may be formed beneath the rear seat.
The boat as a whole can be made by blow moulding. More particularly, plasticized high-molecular-weight thermoplastic (for example, polyethylene) may be premolded into a tube with an extruder. The cut tube (parison) is positioned between mold halves and air is blow into the parison to blow mold the parison so as to prepare a double wall boat.
In distinction from a rubber boat, the boat as shown does not need inflation air to inflate the boat at the time of use, or discharge of air and washing after use. Moreover, there is no corrosion.
Thus, the boat of this invention is easy to maintain and has a longer life.
In one example, a two-seat boat has a length of 2500mm, a width of 1130mm, a depth of 410mm and a weight of about 30Kg.
