Abstract

A pocket broadcast receiver has a moulded plastics clip comprising a slab-like member 10 with lugs 11 apertured to receive a pivot 12. Extending from one end 10a are resilient fingers 13 which diverge from the underside of the member such that clamping pressure is applied to the other end 10b of the member. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Pocket broadcast receiver This invention relates to a pocket broadcast receiver such as a radiopager.
Normally such objects have a generally flat rec tangular body which fits in a shirt pocket orthe like and which is provided with a spring-biassed clip to secure the object in the pocket. The clip is usually pivoted at a point a short distance from one end, whereby depression of that end towards the object body, against the bias of a spring wrapped around the pivot, causes the other end to be moved away from the body thus releasing the grip ofthe clip.
According to the present invention there is provided a pocket broadcast receiver having a moulded plastics clip pivotally mounted on a substantially flat surface ofthe receiver body, one end ofthe clip having clamping pressure applied thereto by one or more integral resilient fingers extending from the other end ofthe clip towards the pivot, said finger(s) diverging from the underside of the clip the free ends ofthe finger(s) bearing against the receiver body with resilient deformation of the fingers to produce the clamping pressure.
An embodimentofthe invention is now described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. lisa plan viewofthe underside of a clip; and Fig.2 is a sectional view on the line XX ofthe plan view.
The clip shown in the drawings is manufactured in a moulded polyacetal material which combines stiff nesswitha limited amount of resilience. The clip comprises a generally slab-like member 10 which has on its underside lugs 11 apertured to accept a pivot 12, the pivot axis being offset from the underside face of the slab and transverse the longitudinal axis ofthe slab. The pivot position is intermediate the middle of the slab and one end 10a. Extending from the end 1 0a towards the pivot are one or more resilient fingers 13 which diverge from the underside ofthe slab such that a plane 14 touching the rounded free end 13a ofthe finger(s) and the other end 1 Ob ofthe slab is clear of the pivot lugs 11.When in use the slab 10 is pressed against a flatface of a receiver body (not shown) so that when the pivot pin 12 is inserted through the lug apertures and through complementary apertures lugs on the receiver body the finger(s) are resiliently deformed and apply spring bias to the slab to force the other end lOb ofthe slab into intimate clamping contact with the receiver body. Subsequent pressure applied atthe end 10a oftheslabtowardthe receiver body sufficient to further deform thefinger(s) results in the other end 1 Ob being lifted away from the receiver body.
In the example shown it is expedientto form the end 10a of the slab with elongate apertures 15, the resilient fingers 13 extending from the end wall of the elongate apertures. Likewise it is desirable to shape the other end 10b to provide an enhanced grip edge 1 otto improve the cloth gripping characteristics ofthe clip.
As shown the slab member also has stiffening ribs 16 formed integrally with the slab. The resilient fingers are tapered and shaped to optimisethe spring effect, the design parameters being chosen to give a predetermined fo rce/travel characteristic If the generally flat surface ofthe receiver body is formed with a slightly protruding cam-like ridge engageable by the free ends of the finger(s) when the end 1 Oa of the clip is depressed then the force versus travel characteristics of the finger(s) can be varied as the free ends of the fingers ride up the calmed surface.
1. A pocket broadcast receiver having a moulded plastics clip pivotally mounted on a substantially flat surface ofthe receiver body, one end ofthe clip having clamping pressure applied thereto by one or more integral resilient fingers extending from the other end ofthe clip towards the pivot, said finger(s) diverging from the underside of the clip the free ends of the finger(s) bearing against the receiver body with resilient deformation ofthe fingers to produce the clamping pressure.
2. A receiver according to claim 1 wherein the other end of the clip is formed with elongate aperture(s) parallel with the longitudinal axis of the clip, the finger(s) extending from an end wall of the aperture(s).
3. A receiver according to claim 1 or 2 wherein the substantially flat surface of the body on which the clip is mounted is formed with a cam-like ridge engageable bythefree end(s) of the resilient finger(s) when the other end ofthe clip is depressed.
4. A pocket broadcast receiver with a clip substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
