Abstract

Reciprocating-punch machines are combined with writing desks or devices for use with account sheets having perforations d, Fig. 4, at the edges to ensure registration of the printed matter on sheets superposed for duplicating. The sheets a are held on a writing desk e, Fig. 2, by a frame b pivoted to the desk at g and carrying a plate which marks the sheets up to the writing line. Each sheet is initially provided with two perforations, d at each edge engaging studs f on the desk in such position that the first line of the sheets is in the writing position. When the frame, b is lowered to hold the sheets a, a perforator h makes a third perforation i in the sheets which together with the nearer of the two perforations d is placed on the studs f for the second line of writing. A fresh perforation is made each time the frame b is lowered for a line of writing and the. studs f are always placed in the lower two perforations. The frame b is retained in a raised position by pawls k engaging ratchets m, the pawls being released when the frame b is to be lowered by turning a handle o connected by side rods to the pawls. To prevent tearing the sheets in handling, the studs f are lowered against the action of a spring r by a lever operated by a side key.
