Abstract

A venetian blind includes, a plurality of slats, a first string for linking said slats to suspend them one above the other in parallel planes and for lifting and lowering the slats, a second string passing over one edges of the slats for displacing said slats to lie in parallel planes of any desired angle, and means for operating the first and second strings, characterised in that the slats are made of resin impregnated fibrous material and are slightly curved in their cross-sections. Advantageously the horizontal slats can be made of a resin impregnated paper or resin impregnated woven fabric.

Description

SPECIFICATION Improved venetian blind This invention relates to venetian blinds, particularly to a horizontal venetian blind which includes horizontal slats which are heat absorbable and not easily flexed when subjected to high temperature.
Conventionally, there are two forms of venetian blind, one being horizontal and the other being perpendicular. The form of venetian blind made is usually based on the choice of material used. Horizontal type is more suitable for hard and rigid material, such as thin metallic slats. However, thin metallic slats are expensive and have no heat absorption and corrosion resisting characteristic. Perpendicular venetian blinds are suitable for inexpensive and heat absorbable plastic materials which, however, are easily flexed when subjected to high temperature. Such perpendicular venetian blind has a disadvantage that it can not regulate the measure of the entering light from outdoors as effective as the horizontal type can do.
An object of the invention is to provide a horizontal venetian blind including horizontal slats which are heat absorbable, inexpensive and not easily flexed.
The foregoing and other objects can be achieved in accordance with the invention through the provision of an improved venetian blind which includes, a plurality of slats, means for connecting the slats to suspend them one above the other in parallel planes, and means for operating the connecting means to make the slats lie in parallel planes of any desired angle, characterised in that the slats are made of resin impregnated fibrous material and slightly curved in their crosssections.
The connecting means may includes, two perpendicular first strings passing through the horizontal slats in such a manner that all the horizontal slats can be lifted or lowered when the first strings are operated. The connecting means may further includes, two second strings incorporated with the horizontal slats so as to regulate the angles of the parallel planes in which the horizontal slats lie for admission of the light.
Advantageously, the horizontal slats can be made of a resin impregnated paper, resin impregnated woven fabric.
This and other objects, features and advantages of the present inventions will be more apparent in the following description of a preferred embodiment with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a slat constructed according to the invention; and Figure 2 is a perspective view of a venetian blind constructed according to the invention.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown a venetian blind 1 which includes a plurality of horizontal slats 10 of suitable dimension, preferably 250 mm in width and 0.25mm in thickness, and slightly curved cross-section.
The horizontal slats 10 can be made of resin impregnated paper or resin impregnated woven fibrics. This can be accomplished by submerging the cut pieces of paper or woven fabric in a suitable resin solution and then forming into a slat of slightly curved crosssection. The formed slats are further provided with slots 11 and 12 respectively.
As shown in Fig. 2, the horizontal slats 10 are linked by two primary strings 13 and 14 which pass through slots 11 and 12 respectively, and are connected to an operating means which includes a main support bar 15 and reels 16. As the construction thereof is known in the art, the details thereof are not described hereinafter.
There are further provided two secondary strings 17 and 18 which pass over the edges of the horizontal slats 10 vertically. The primary strings 13, 14 and the secondary strings 17, 18 are connected together by loops 19 which are extended from the secondary strings 17, 18 and sleeved onto the primary strings 13, 14 between every two horizontal slats 10.
When the primary strings 13 and 14 are drawn upward, the horizontal slats 10 are lifted so that the venetian blind is placed in its opened position. If the secondary strings 17 and 18 are drawn upward, the horizontal slats 10 are turned and changed to an angle simultaneously so that the slats 10 are overlapped one another. When the secondary strings 17, 18 are released, the weight of the heavy end piece 20 will cause the slats 10 to lie in parallel horizontal planes so that a measure of light can enter. As the slats 10 are slightly curved in their cross sections, they are not easily flexed. This may improve the characteristic of the slats 10.
With the invention thus explained, it is apparent that obvious modifications and variations can be made without departing from the scope of the invention. It is therefore intended that the invention be limited only as indicated in the appended claims.
