Abstract
The present invention provides a material for clothing, wherein it is mainly composed of a foamed, sheet-like elastic rubber material having an apparent specific gravity less than that of water and having a magnetisable material uniformly dispersed therein, said foamed, sheet-like material being magnetised at positions corresponding to opening, closing and connecting portions of a finished product made from said foamed material.
Description
SPECIFICATION
Material for Clothing
The present invention is concerned with a material for clothing and the like.
Hitherto, it has been conventional to make clothes by cutting conventional clothing materials, be they natural or synthetic, sewing them together and finally providing closure means, such as buttons, cords, fasteners and the like. Water-tightness is extremely important for clothes to be worn while working underwater or in vacuum conditions and much labour and time are spent in producing such clothes for retaining the water-tightness.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved material for clothing which overcomes the above-mentioned difficulties.
Thus, according to the present invention, there is provided a material for clothing, wherein it is mainly composed of a foamed, sheet-like elastic rubber material having an apparent specific gravity less than that of water and having a magnetisable material uniformly dispersed therein, said foamed, sheet-like material being magnetised at positions corresponding to opening, closing and connecting portions of a finished product made from said foamed material.
The present invention makes it unnecessary to provide special means for opening, closing and connecting clothing and the like and also makes available a material for clothing which enables the production of clothing which is watertight.
The present invention is explained in more detail in the following.
A base material is made by adding a blowing agent, a cross-linking agent and other conventional auxiliary agents to a rubber material, which can be a mixture of two materials having a molecular weight of about 200,000 and a molecular weight of from 2,000 to 12,000. A magnetisable material composed of granules produced by very finely granulating a magnetisable substance is then uniformly dispersed in the mixture, followed by being left to stand for ageing, whereafter it is placed in a metal mould, pressed and heated to produce a foamed material which is then made into a thin and flat sheet of any desired thickness, for example of 0.1 to 30 mm. thickness.Sheets of fabric of high elasticity can then be bonded on to both surfaces of sheet to produce a laminate which is cut up into any desired shapes, whereafterthose portions corresponding to opening, closing and connecting positions of finished articles made from the shapes are magnetised.
Depending upon the intended use, the foamed material can have closed or open bubbles. When the material only contains closed bubbles, the desired elasticity and maintenance of the shape and style are possible by blending bubbles of comparatively small diameter and of large diameter and dispersing them uniformly.
The following Examples are given for the purpose of illustrating the present invention:
EXAMPLE 1

A magnetising machine with an input power source of AC 1000--3500 V variable, an input voltage of DC 200/220 V 30A and an electrostatic capacity of 600 UF, an electric discharge circuit, a thyristor (SCR), having a charging time 5 seconds and a working cycle of 6 seconds and an oil condenser is employed and, in operation, a yoke (a magnetising plate) is connected to the magnetising machine and, after selecting north and south poles at optional spaced intervals, for example, 1 mm. to 20 mm., on the surface of the sheet-like foamed material, magnetisation is carried out at a velocity of less than 1 minute according to the intended use of the product.
The product of the present invention has the water-tightness which is far superior to that of conventional materials used for clothing and it is easily possible to make a product with a high degree of elasticity. Furthermore, since the apparent specific gravity is less than 1, the product is much lighter and its workability is excellent. Good effects are obtained when it is used to make working clothes for use in manufacturing plants of the electronics industry or for use underwater. The product can also be used for making various kinds of supports or the like for medical accessories, such as sphygmomanometer cuffs.
