Abstract
A metallic casing for electronic parts such as a tuner comprises a frame body formed by front and rear plates (1, 2) and a pair of side plates (3). First attaching legs (4) extend from the side plates (3) for attaching the frame body to a substrate in a first attaching mode, and second attaching legs (7) extend also from the side plates for attaching 4 the frame body to the substrate in a second attaching mode when the frame body is turned through 90 degrees from its attitude in the first attaching mode. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Metallic casing for electronic parts
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to the structure of a metallic casing for electronic parts such as tuner.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The conventional metallic casing for electronic parts such as tuner will be described with reference to Figs. 1 through 4 illustrating examples of the prior art, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an example of the conventional metallic casing, Fig. 2 is a sectional view illustrating the attaching mode or state of the metallic casing shown in Fig. 1 being attached to a mounting substrate, Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing another example of the metallic casing, and Fig. 4 is a sectional view illustrating the attaching mode of the metallic casing shown in Fig. 3 being attached to the mounting substrate.
In Figs. 1 through 4, is a front plate, 2 is a rear plate arranged as to oppose the front plate 1, and 3 are a pair of mutually opposing side plates arranged as to be orthogonal to these front plate 1 and rear plate 2, these front plate, rear plate 2 and side plates 3 composing a metallic frame body. The metallic casing shown in Fig. 1 is provided at the ends of the side plates 3 with attaching legs 4 projecting in front of the front plate 1, and this metallic casing is fixed, as shown in Fig. 2, by inserting the attaching legs 4 into holes of the mounting substrate 5 and by soldering portions of the attaching legs 4 projecting on the back surface of the mounting substrate 5.
In this attaching structure, there is the drawback that a dimensional space in height in the vertical direction of the mounting substrate 5 is required, thus, an electronic set incorporating the tuner can not be made into a thin body.
The metallic casing shown in Fig. 3 is designed in considering that the tuner and the like is to be incorporated in a thin-body electronic set. Therefor, a pair of attaching legs 6 are provided extending down from the both side plates 3, and the metallic casing is fixed, as shown in Fig. 4, by inserting the attaching legs 6 into holes of the mounting substrate 5 and by soldering portions of the attaching legs projecting on the back surface of the mounting substrate 5.
However, according to this second attaching structure, a large attaching dimension in directions along the surface of the mounting substrate 5 is required, thus, this type of metallic casing is unfit for the case where, in contrast with the above, even were there a space in the vertical direction of the mounting substrate 5, no dimensional space remains in directions along the surface of the mounting substrate 5.
As apparent from the foregoing description, hitherto, the two types of metallic casing had to be prepared as to fit for the two attaching conditions of the metallic casing, and this hindered the productivity.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention has been devised in order to dissolve the drawbacks of the prior art, and it is an object of the present invention to provide a metallic casing for electronic parts adaptable to either of the first and second attaching modes.
The metallic casing according to the present invention comprises a frame body and attaching leg means. The frame body consists of a front plate, a rear plate arranged opposingly to the front plate, and a pair of mutually opposing side plates arranged orthogonally to the front and rear plates.
The attaching leg means consist of first attaching legs provided at the ends of the side plates and projecting frontward in front of the front plate and second attaching legs provided at the ends of the side plates and projecting orthogonally to the first attaching legs. The first attaching legs are used to assume the first attaching mode of the metallic casing and the second attaching legs are used to assume the second attaching mode, with the legs not used for attaching serving as a stopper.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Figs. 1 through 4 illustrate examples of the conventional metallic casing, in which
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an example of the metallic casing;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view illustrating the attaching mode of the metallic casing shown in Fig. 1 being attached to a mounting substrate;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing another example of the metallic casing;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view illustrating the attaching mode of the metallic casing shown in Fig. 3 being attached to the mounting substrate;
Figs. 5 through 7 illustrate an embodiment of the present device, in which
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the present metallic casing;
Fig. 6 is a sectional view illustrating a first attaching mode of the metallic casing; and
Fig. 7 is a sectional view illustrating a second attaching mode where the metallic casing is attached after turned SO degrees from the state of the first attaching mode.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention will be described with reference to Figs. 5 through 7 illustrating an embodiment of the present invention, in which Fig.
5 is a perspective view of the embodical metallic casing, Fig. 6 is a sectional view showing a first attaching mode, and Fig. 7 is a sectional view showing a second attaching mode. In these drawings, the elements corresponding to those of the prior art bear the same reference numbers as those, with their detailed description omitted.
In Fig. 5,4 are first attaching legs provided at the ends of the side plates 3 and projecting frontward in front of the front plate 1, and 7 are second attaching legs arranged orthogonally to the first attaching legs 4.
On attaching the metallic casing to the mounting substrate 5 in the first attaching mode as shown in
Fig. 6, the first attaching legs 4 are inserted into the holes of the mounting substrate 5 and their portions projecting on the back surface of the mounting substrate are soldered to fix the metallic casing. In this case, the second attaching legs 7 serve as a stopper.
Further, on attaching the metallic casing to the mounting substrate 5 in the second attaching mode where the metallic casing is turned 90 degrees with respect to the state of the first attaching mode shown in Fig. 6, the second attaching legs 7 are inserted into the holes of the mounting substrate 5 as shown in Fig. 7, and their portions projecting on the back surface of the mounting substrate are soldered to fix the metallic casing. In this case, the first attaching legs 4 serve as a stopper.
In addition, 8 shown in Figs. 5 through 7 is a third attaching leg provided on the rear plate 2 whose size in height is equal to the dimension in height, x, of the first attaching leg 4, and if the metallic casing is to be attached in the second attaching mode, the metallic casing is supported in a stable state by this third attaching leg 8.
The metallic casing of the present invention has the structure as described above, and can assume, only with one type of structure, either of the two attaching modes shown in Figs. 6 and 7 depending upon a desire.
According to the present invention, because the side plates are provided with the first attaching legs projecting frontward in front of the front plate, and the second attaching legs orthogonal to the first attaching legs for allowing attaching of the metallic casing in the second attaching mode where the metallic casing is turned 90 degrees from its state in the first attaching mode where the metallic casing is attached by means of the first attaching legs, either
of the first and second attaching modes can be
assumed by the use of only one type of metallic
casing, depending upon the extent of a space within
an electronic set which incorporates the subject
metallic casing, thus, the present invention has the effectiveness that the productivity can be improved
remarkably in comparison with the case where two
types of metallic casings had to be prepared
depending upon the selected attaching mode as the
case of the prior art.
While the preferred embodiment has been
described, variations thereto will occur to those
skilled in the art within the scope of the present
inventive concepts which are delineated by the
following claims.
