Elements moving always in one plane, rotating. -In advertising devices of the type in which discs bearing pictures &c. in sections are revolubly mounted behind a face plate so that sections on different discs may be brought together to show a complete picture through an opening in the plate, the discs are provided with apertures or transparent portions through which complementary portions of the picture on a lower disc are seen. The face plate C, Fig. 1, may have a transparent area A surrounded by semi-transparent parts B which change the colour of the portions of the discs seen beneath. Two adjacent discs may be rotated by Geneva stop mechanism with a common pin-wheel. The device, after the discs have rotated simultaneously or in succession into a new relative position, may be turned as a whole through nearly one revolution before the picture is again changed. The face plate mav have a series of star-like openings, shown shaded in Fig. 3, through each of which show parts of two of a number of discs pivoted at D. In a modification, two overlapping discs, Fig. 4, are combined with eight hexagonal members pivoted at H and rotating one-third of a revolution at a time to bring new designs behind diamond-shaped spaces in the face plate, or with four star-shaped members pivoted at G and rotating one-sixth of a revolution at a time. In another form six discs are mounted to form a single central design, and are rotated in succession two at a time. The discs may be of glass or any suitable material, transparent, semi-transparent, or opaque, and may be strengthened. The device may be mounted on a ceiling or floor so adapted for optical projection. The discs may have advertising matter on each side and be revolved by cams coming into contact with the edges of the discs. According to the Provisional Specification the device may be mounted on the face of a clock, or may work about the walls of a moving polygon.
