Abstract

The device comprises a base plate 1 having four holes 2 carrying two posts 9, 3. Each post comprises a hole 4 in which are pivoted two shafts 5, 10, which are screwed on either side in a sleeve 5. The device is locked by a screwing action on the shaft 5 by means of a lever 7. A stud 13 prevents rotation of a tool in the sleeve. Retaining means 12 maintain the tool in the sleeve. A groove 6 machined in the post limits the pivotment in cooperating with a pin fast with the sleeve. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Pivoting device for the locking and unlocking of tools The present invention concerns a device for locking and unlocking cutting tools or other tools in machine tool catches or tappets.
Mounting and dismounting devices for cutting or other tools are known which are used in a fixed position either vertically or horizontally. They can not be used or settled in both positions by means of only one control member and the sleeves receiving the tools are fixed.
The aim of the present invention is to simplify the mounting and dismounting of cutting or other tools used with machine tools.
This aim is achieved by means of the device according to the present invention which comprises a base plate carrying two lateral posts, transversal shafts crossing said respective posts for locking respectively indexing an interchangeable sleeve supporting tool catches, said sleeve comprising retaining means for said catches avoiding the falling out from said sleeve of said catches, said retaining means being adjustable in height as well as in diameter to match all sorts of tool catches.
This device enables to work on tool catches for the fixing of a tool therein at their front end as well as their rear end. Furthermore by simply unscrewing the two lateral shafts fixed to the posts the sleeve can be replaced by another one. The sleeves are thus interchangeable to match several conical or cylin drical tool catches.
The attached drawing shows by way of example one embodiment of the device according to the invention and its different uses.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device with a detail at greater scale of post 3.
Figure 2 is a schematic crossection of the device showing several sleeves of different shapes which can be interchangeably mounted in the device where they are pivoted on the central shaft.
The device shown in Figures 1 and 2 has a square base plate 1 provided with holes 2 giving passage to fixing bolts for fastening it to a working table.
A post 3 is fastened on said base plate 1 comprising a hole 4 giving passage to a tighting shaft 5.
A groove machined in the post 3 has the shape of a quarter of circle cooperating with a cylindrical pin fast with a sleeve 8 acting as an angular abutment defining the horizontal and vertical positions of the sleeve 8. A post 9 also fast with the base plate 1 comprises a hole giving passage to the rotation shaft 10, which is controlled by means of the handle 11.
The sleeve 8 is provided with a spring retaining system 12 which is adjustable in height and in diameter on top of the sleeve avoiding thus the falling out of the sleeve 8 of the tool catches when located in horizontal position.
A stud 13 avoids any rotation of the tool catch in the sleeve 8.
When the axis of rotation 10 is tightly screwed into the sleeve 8 which comes to rest on the post 9, the locking in position is obtained by screwing the tighting shaft 5 into the other side of the sleeve 8 by means of the lever 7.
To replace a sleeve 8 by another one having another shape, height, or diameter adapted to other tool catches, it is only necessary to unscrew shafts 5 and 10 and to take the sleeve 8 out; to replace it by another sleeve and screw again the shafts 5 and 10.
Example of possible shapes for sleeves are shown on Figure 2.
1. A pivoting device for locking and unlocking tools in tool catches, which comprises a base plate carrying two lateral posts, transversal shafts crossing said respective posts for locking respectively indexing an interchangeable sleeve supporting tool catches, said sleeve comprising retaining means for said catches avoiding the falling out from said sleeve of said catches, said retaining means being adjustable in height as well as in diameter to match all sorts of tool catches.
2. A pivoting device for locking and unlocking tools in tool catches, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
