Abstract

A razor of the disposable type comprises a handle 11 integral with a head 12 the handle 11 being of trough- section, designed to enable the handles of adjacent razors to fit together releasably. The head 12 is of frame-shape and, during manufacture, a razor blade 31 (Fig. 6) is fitted within the frame and secured by rivets 30. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A Razor This invention relates to razor, and in particular to disposable razors. A disposable razor is one comprising a handle, usually of a plastics material, and a blade unit containing one or more blades, both the handle and blade unit being discarded by the user when he finds that the razor is no longer giving a satisfactory shave.
One construction of razor in accordance with the invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a razor in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a front elevation of the razor of Figure 1, the front being the side directed towards the shaver when in use; Figure 3 is a section on the line Ill-Ill of Figure 2; Figure 4 is a scrap section on the line IV-lV of Figure 3; Figure 5 is a view of the razor head as seen in the direction of the arrow E in Figure 1: Figure 6 is a section through the razor head to an enlarged scale; and Figure 7 is a view, corresponding to that of Figure 6, of a modified razor.
The razor as shown in the drawings comprises a handle having, at one end, a razor head 12 formed integrally therewith as a one piece plastics moulding.
The handle which is substantially troughshaped throughout its length, comprises a hand grip portion 13 which, at one end, is connected to the head by a curved neck portion 14. Over the hand grip portion, the trough 1 5 is divided by a central iongitudinally extending rib 1 6 and transverse ribs 1 7 extend at spaced intervals between the central rib 1 6 and the sides 18, 1 9 of the trough. The front side of the handle is formed with transverse ridges 20 to assist the user to grip the handle.
As shown in Figures 2 and 6, the ridges 20 on the front of the handle form a rib 21 along the handle, this rib having flat sides whose distance apart is such as to allow the rib to fit tightly into the trough 1 5 on the rearward side of the next adjacent handle when the handles are assembled in front to back relationship. This tight fit will enable the handles to grip and adhere to one another until pulled apart by the user.
The depth of the trough diminishes over the neck portion 14 of the handle which joins the hand grip portion 13 to the head 12 of the razor, this portion being curved in a concave sense as viewed from the front of the razor. For added strength, the front side of the neck portion is formed with longitudinal ribs 22.
The head of the razor, which is integral with the neck, is in the shape of a rectangular frame.
One elongate side 23 of the frame is immediately at the end of the neck portion of the handle, and constitutes a guard bar. Two sides 24, 25 of the frame extend rearwardly from opposite ends of the guard bar, and a fourth side 26 supports a cap portion 27 within the frame. The underside of the cap portion is substantially flat and forms a bladereceiving platform 28. Four cylindrical studs 30 extend from the platform perpendicular thereto to pass through apertures in a blade 31.
The blade-receiving platform 28 of the cap is spaced from the guard bar both in the plane of this platform and in a direction perpendicular to the platform.
The blade 31, which is shown in Figure 4, is formed with apertures 32 corresponding to the studs on the underside of the cap, and is located in position on the studs of the blade-receiving platform and secured in position by welding heads on to the studs, or by rivetting the studs to form heads thereon which are oversize in relation to the blade apertures.
As seen in Figure 6, the blade edge 31 a is located wholly within the aperture bounded by the frame and below the sides of the frame.
Moreover, the blade edge is unsupported over its entire length.
Although the razor has been shown as containing a single blade, its dimensions could be adapted to receive two blades in spaced apart relationship both supported on studs extending from the underside of the cap.
At the end of the handle opposite the head, a slot 33 is formed which assists in locating the handles when fitted to a display card or pack.
In the modification of the razor, as shown in Figure 7, the cap 127 forms the fourth side of the frame, and a flap 135 formed integrally with the cap, and hinged thereto along its free outer side, is provided with four apertures 1 36 matching the four studs 1 30. Accordingly, when the blade has been located on the studs 130, the flap is folded to lay against the blade, with the studs extending through the apertures 136 of the flap. The studs are then welded or rivetted to secure the flap and blade in position. The flap then provides support along the length of the blade edge.
CLAIMS (Filed on 24-1-84) 1. A razor comprising a handle, a razor blade, a blade cover, a guardbar spaced from the cover to define a gap therebetween into which the cutting edge of the blade extends, and side members disposed along opposite sides of the blade and integral with the guardbar and the handle, the razor blade being permanently secured directly to the blade cover, and the blade cover being integral with the side members.
2. A razor comprising a blade and a one-piece razor handle and head frame, the blade being permanently secured to the frame by welding.
3. A razor according to claim 2 having a blade cover and a guardbar both integral with the handle, the cover and guardbar being spaced apart to form a gap into which the edge of the blade extends, the guardbar being disposed between the handle and the blade cover.
