Abstract
213,927. Ecseci, S. Kiss-, and Maschinen-und Metallwerke vorm. A. F. Bechmann Ges. April 5, 1923, [Convention date]. Flat-folded link chains.-In the manufacture of chains, each link of which has two eyes at right-angles, from bars wherein the eyes are completed after the bar has been passed into the eye of a finished link, the preliminary step in the production of the eyes comprises the splitting of the bar near the ends a of the blank, either before or after the blank is threaded through a finished link by shearing the halves b, c asunder, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The middle of the bar may be bent simultaneously to the shape shown at d. The bar is then bent to the form shown in side and end views in Figs. 7 and 8, the split parts b, c being caused to gape apart as shown. The bar is then threaded through a finished link and the parts b, c are opened out to form half-eyes g, as shown in Fig. 11. The link is finally bent up as shown in Fig. 12 until the half-eyes are brought together. The several operations may be performed in a machine in which the finished link is returned to the initial position for a blank to be threaded through it. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the initial blank may be first bent to the shape shown in Fig. 7, the splitting shown in Fig. 8 being then effected by sawing. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
