Abstract

The method involves maintaining a coaxial relation between a closure (21) and a container (24) during an insertion phase and follows through with a heat sealing operation so that a single head provides both functions and can readily be adapted to multi-head machines of continuous or intermittent motion rotary type. A sealing head is reciprocably arranged relative to a container support and comprises a plate (5) shaped to fit inside and adapted releasably to retain a closure cap (21). A heating ring (9) is reciprocably supported behind the plate (5) and is adapted to fit within the cap (21) behind the plate (5) to seal a skirt of the cap (21) to the container (24). <IMAGE>
