Abstract
213,586. Dupuy, H. March 29, 1923, [Convention date]. Addition to 198,661. Hydrocarbons, distilling.-In apparatus for the distillation of solids or liquids but particularly solid fuel and of the kind referred to in the parent Specification a vertical shaft is divided into an upper distillation and a lower cooling zone through which skips filled with the material are caused to pass so that their periods of heating and cooling are equal. Each skip. which comprises a box open at the top with two opposite open work sides, is raised from a trolly x and loaded into the top of the shaft the column of skips being lowered by a screw jack q for the removal of each skip in turn. Steam from a boiler 2 is superheated in the heater e, enters a passage e<1>, passes through skips a<5>, a<4>, a<3> and enters a series of condensers b<1>, b<2> having water atomizers g, tar separators f<1>, f<2> receiving the condensates which flow into vessels i<1>, i<2>. The condensates are thus fractionated and subsequent distillation of the tar rendered unnecessary. A pump c circulates the gases along a pipe B having a branch k leading to a condenser m and the gases enter a conduit c<5> and are heated by passage through skips a<8>, a<7>, a<6>, which are thereby cooled, and re-enter the superheater e, a pressure controller z being provided.
