Abstract
The present invention relates to needle tricks (4) in double-cylinder circular knitting machines for manufacturing socks and similar goods, provided with latch needles (2). The invention aims at stabilizing the needle latches (22), particularly in the upper needle cylinder (1), which latches (22) are opened in front of a feed into an outstanding position, upon knocking against the latch guide. This is performed in such a manner that the depth of the needle cylinder trick in region X-Y at the end where the closed needle (2) is positioned, is within the extent of the sector corresponding to the full radius R1 of the latch (22) of a needle (2), and exceeds the extent of the sector which is limited by the length R2 of the needle latch (22) between the latch pin 23 and the widest part of the latch spoon (22'). <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Double-cylinder circular knitting machine
The present invention relates to a doublecylinder circular knitting machine for manufacturing socks and similar goods, in which latch needles are positioned in tricks of the needle cylinders.
It is known that the needle cylinders of doublecylinder circular knitting machines for manufacturing socks and similar goods are provided with longitudinal tricks having the same depth along the whole length of the cylinder. It happens in the course of knitting, particularly with needles in the upper needle cylinder, which are in the closing position, that due to centrifugal force, or by entrapping the repeated thread, the needle latches are opened and afterwards, during the further knitting procedure closed, or possibly opened by the latch guide. Upon impact of the needle latches against the latch guide they are usually broken off, as the latch in its attenuated part, in front of the spoon, is not supported by anything. The only stationary point is the pin on which the latch is mounted. Therefore, said latch is swung out aside and broken off.
The purpose of the present invention is to remove the above mentioned disadvantage.
According to the invention, there is provided a double-cylinder circular knitting machine for manufacturing socks and similar goods, in which latch needles are mounted inside the needle cylinder tricks and the depth of each trick of the needle cylinder at that end where the needle is positioned is within the extent of the swing of the latch of the closed needle, and exceeds the extent of the sector, which is limited by length of the latch of the needle between the pin of the latch and the widest part of the spoon of the latch.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a partial axial section through the upper needle cylinder with an illustration of the needle and the press-off sinker; and
Fig. 2 is a section on line A-A of Fig. 1.
A known double-cylinder circular knitting machine for manufacturing socks and similar goods is provided with an upper needle cylinder 1 and a lower needle cylinder (not represented). The machine is provided with double ended needles 2, which are operable in either-needle cylinder. The upper needle cylinder 1 has on its outer circumference longitudinal tricks 4. Each of said tricks 4 is made at the end where the needle 2 is mounted, in such a manner that its depth h (Fig.
2) is within the range of the sector corresponding to a full swing of latch 22 of needle 2 in closed position, which is always broader than the extent of the sector limited by length R2 of latch 22 of needle 2 between pin 23 and the widest part of spoon 22' of latch 22, also in the full swing. This relation is visible in Fig. 1 from radii R, and R2, where radius R, represents the path of the tip of spoon 22' of latch 22, while radius R2 represent the path of the origin of the widest part of spoon 22' nearer to pin 23. The depth h of trick 4 between points X and Y is always higher than the dimension of the sector determining radius R2, and increases substantially from point X, i.e. the end of trick 4, as far as point Y. Behind point Y, the trick 4 has the same depth h as at point X.
Further, the upper sinker ring 5 is fastened to the upper needle cylinder 1 together with the lower sinker ring 6, in the tricks of which are the press-off sinkers 7.
The embodiment as specified above operates as follows:
When needle 2 is in the closing position, as shown in Fig. 1 and its latch 22 is opened either by centrifugal force or by repeated thread, it touches on both sides the walls of tricks 4 by spoon 22'. Upon rotation, in front of the feed, the opened latch 22 knocks on the latch guide. In that case, latch 22 cannot be swung out aside, because said latch is laterally secured by spoon 22' bearing against the side of trick 4.
The lower needle cylinder is made also in a similar manner. The embodiment of the cylinder has the same effect also in machines provided with needles operable in one needle cylinder.
The main advantage of the present invention consists in avoiding breaking or damaging of latches.
Claims
1. A double-cylinder circular knitting machine for manufacturing socks and similar goods, in which latch needles are mounted inside the needle cylinder tricks and the depth of each trick of the needle cylinder at that end where the needel is positioned, is within the extent of the sector corresponding to the full extent of the swing of the latch of the closed needle and exceeds the extent of the sector, which is limited by length of the latch of the needle between the pin of the latch and the widest part of the spoon of the latch.
2. A doubie-cylinder circular knitting machine as claimed in Claim 1, in which the depth of each trick increases from the said end thereof to a maximum and then continues beyond the sector determined by the full extent of swing of the latch of the closed needle at an amount equal to the depth at the said end of the trick.
3. A double-cylinder circular knitting machine substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
