Abstract

An arcuate cover to extend around the normally visible part of a roller blind, includes support means for supporting the cover spaced from the blind.

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements relating to roller blinds This invention relates to roller blinds and its object is to improve the appearance of such blinds.
Roller blinds are commonly supported by metal brackets, one at each end, attached to the wall of a room by screws. The blind or its roll with the brackets do not have an attractive appearance.
According to the present invention a roller blind is covered from view by a blind cover which extends from the upper part of the rolled blind, around its front part and rearwardly, support means are provided for supporting the blind cover spaced from the rolled blind, and end covers engage the ends of the blind cover and conceal the support means.
The blind cover may have an arcuate shape extending over more than 1 800 and it may be a plastics extrusion and may be covered with a decorative veneer.
If desired the existing brackets may be used for supporting the roller blind and a separate bracket may be provided for attachment to the wall and having means for engaging within the ends of the blind cover to centre it around the roller blind.
Instead of a separate bracket, centering members may be provided with clips, adhesive or other means for attaching them to the existing brackets.
Alternatively brackets may be provided which support the blind and also have an extended shape to engage in the ends of the blind cover to centre it around the roller blind.
The end covers may be solid or hollow knobs having a recess with an annular surface which fits within or around the blind cover and receives the blind cover centering means.
Instead of knobs, more or less flat caps may be provided.
The invention will be further described by way of example with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings wherein: FIGURE 1 is a front view of a roller blind provided with a cover in accordance with the invention; FIGURE 2 is a plan view thereof; FIGURES 3 and 4 are end views showing modifications; FIGURE 5 is an "exploded" view of a preferred construction; FIGURE 6 is an end view thereof omitting the end cover; and FIGURE 7 is a section in plan of one end of the blind and associated parts.
In the construction of Figures 1-2 and 5-7 the roller blind 10 is carried on the usual roller 1 1 which has trunnion pins 12 at its ends supported in brackets 13 attached to the wall by screws 16.
For the purpose of the present invention a roller blind cover 17 is provided which conceals the rolled blind from view. In this example the blind cover 1 7 is part of a tube and extends over the upper and lower parts of the rolled blind and over its front part so as to subtend an angle of 240-270 degrees.
This blind cover 17 is centralized by means of discs 18 which engage the inner surface at the ends of the blind cover, which discs are in turn supported by brackets 20 to which they are attached by screws 21. The brackets 20 have feet 22 which engage between the brackets 13 and the wall so as to be fixed by the same screws 16.
The brackets 20 have slots 23 for the screws 21 to permit adjustment.
It will be seen that the more visible parts of the brackets as well as the discs 18 are within the ends of the blind cover 17.
To complete the decorative concealment of the blind, knobs 25 are secured to the ends of the blind cover 17 by press fit or may be screwed on.
For this purpose the knobs are provided with recesses the internal surface of which fits over the ends of the blind cover so that apart from the unrolled part of the blind one only sees the cover 17 and knobs 25 as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 shows that the two brackets 1 3, 20 and disc 18 can be replaced by a single bracket 27 which is extended to a curved surface 28 which fits within the end of the cover 17 so as to support it and at the same time to centralize it.
Figure 4 shows another modification in which the cover 17 has a flange 30 which can be screwed to the wall to obviate the use of brackets 20 and discs 18.
