Abstract

A container 1 for pasty products comprises a deformable tube 2 which, at a product-dispensing end, has a head 4 comprising a threaded cylindrical base portion 6 to which can be screwed a closure cap 10, an intermediate portion 7 of decreasing diameter, and a flattened portion 8 in the centre of which a dispensing orifice 9 is formed. The intermediate portion 7 may be a segment of an ellipsoid or frustoconical. The outer diameter of the base portion 6 may be equal to that of the tube adjacent the base portion or, alternatively, may be such that the caps when screwed onto the head is externally flush with the tube adjacent the base portion 6. The cap 10 may be provided with an annular protuberance 13 or a pin (15, figure 4) to cooperate with the head to seal the orifice 9. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Container for pasty products and the like This invention relates to a container for pasty products and the like, of the type comprising a deformable tube and a closure cap.
The known containers of this type suffer from several drawbacks. Among them, there is the inconvenience of applying them directly to the user's skin so that he or she may receive the product contained. A further drawback is that the closure screw thread is frequently soiled by the excess product after application, making it difficult to reopen the container, particularly when the product tends to dry on contact with the ambient air. In any case, any excess product left on the outside of the deformable tube gives it a neglected appearance.
Summary of the Invention To overcome these drawbacks, there has been devised a container of the aforesaid type which is characterised fundamentally in that the deformable tube is provided, at the product dispensing end thereof, with a protruding head which, in the product dispensing direction is provided successively with a base portion consisting of a generally cylindrical region externally provided with a screw thread for receiving the closure cap, an intermediate portion consisting of a domed region of decreasing diameter and a summit portion having a flattened region in the centre of which there is an orifice forming the product dispensing mouth.
Brief Description of the Drawings To facilitate the understanding of the foregoing, reference is made hereinafter to the drawings accompanying this specification which, in view of their explanatory nature, should be deemed to lack any limiting nature relative to the scope pf legal protection being applied for. In the drawings: Figure 1 is a partly interrupted elevation view of the container of the invention, the head of the deformable tube being partly in section and the closure cap being in axial section; Figure 2 is an axial section view of the head of the deformable tube and of a portion of said tube adjacent the head; Figure 3 is a similar view to Figure 1, in which the head of the deformable tube has a frustoconical configuration: and Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3, restricted substantially to the head of the container, showing a modification of the stopper element.
Description of the Preferred Embodiments The container 1 for pasty products and the like comprises a deformable tube 2 having a generally cylindrical body over a major portion of the length thereof, although the end 3 opposite the product dispensing end is widened radially in one direction and narrowed radially in a direction perpendicular to the widening. Said tube has a wall thickness e and an outside diameter D.
At the product dispensing end, the deformable tube 2 is preferably provided with a shoulder 2' followed by a protruding head 4. Nevertheless, it is also contemplated that the outside diameter of the deformable tube body 2 may be generally the same as the starting diameter of the protruding head, in which case there is no shoulder 2'.
The protruding head 4 is provided with the portions described below and particularly illustrated in Figure 2. In the first place there is the base portion 5, positioned adjacent the tube body 2 and consisting of a generally cylindrical region having an outside diameter d and being provided with a screw thread 6. The wall thickness is a (optionally a may be the same as e), and in Figure 2 said base portion 5 is illustrated generally by the broken lines X, Y. Following the base portion 5 there is an intermediate portion 7 consisting of a domed region having a reducing diameter as the distance from the portion 5 increases. The intermediate portion 7, having the same or a similar thickness to part 5, is shown generally between the broken lines Y, Z in Figure 2.This intermediate portion is preferably shaped as a segment of ellipsoid of revolution (as shown in Figures 1 and 2) or as a frustum of a cone as shown in Figure 3.
Finally, there is a summit portion 8 being flattened and in the centre of which there is an orifice 9 forming the product dispensing mouth.
The said summit portion 9 is indicated generally between the broken lines Z, Z' of Figure 2.
When the intermediate portion 7 is frustoconical, the summit portion 8 is flat, forms the smaller end of the frustum and has the orifice 9 in the centre thereof.
The container is completed by a closure cap 10, the side wall 11 of which is cylindrical at least as far as the inner surface thereof is concerned and where it is provided with a screw thread mating with the screw thread 6 of the head 4. Said side wall is also preferably cylindrical in the outer surface thereof and the outside diameter thereof is preferably to the outside diameter D of the tube body 2. In such case the difference between the diameters D and d is generally equal to double the thickness of the cylindrical wall of the closure cap.
In other words, it is generally D-d=2g The closure cap is provided in the bottom 12 thereof with an annular protuberance 1 3 coaxial with the cap. The free edge of the annular protuberance 1 3 is snugly positioned against the intermediate portion 7 of the head 4 when the container is closed, surrounding the dispensing orifice 9 and thereby closing the product dispensing mouth.
In the alternative embodiment illustrated in Figure 4, the closure cap is provided with a pin 1 5 in the bottom 12 thereof, adapted to be inserted in the product dispensing mouth and seal the dispensing orifice. Preferably the dispensing mouth is provided with an annular inwardly directed lip 1 6 which adapts itself to the pin 1 5.
The above described container, particularly the Figure 1 embodiment thereof, is particularly useful and appropriate for allowing the direct application of certain products such as pasty deodorants, make-up compositions and the like to the user's skin, since the absence of sharp edges in the immediate proximity of the product dispensing orifice means that such application may be made with advantageous conditions of smoothness.
Even in the container illustrated in Figure 3, the large size of the angle formed by the generating line of the frustum and the radius of the flat summit portion 8 mean that such conditions of smoothness are maintained.
The direct application of the product by way of this container obviously avoids the intermediate step of using a vehicle constituted by the user's hands, a cioth, a sponge, a towel or a similar means, in other words, the unnecessary soiling of the means chosen as vehicle is avoided and moreover there are savings of product.
The fact that the sealing means (both if it is an annular protuberance 13 and if it is a pin inserted in the orifice 9) is remote from the thread 6 avoids the usual drawback that the thread becomes soiled with the product contained, which on drying makes it harder to open the tube on future occasions.
Moreover when the type of product or the area to which it is to be applied make it advisable to apply the product by intermediate transfer to the user's hand, it is very easy to clean the dispensing mouth after use and thus prevent any product from remaining on the outside of the deformable tube.
