Abstract

A cover to protect a vehicle seat 2 from the sun comprises a cover member 1 and a bag 4. The bag 4 is fixable to the rear of the seat back. The cover member 1 is attached to the bag 4 and is storable in the bag when not in use. The cover member 1 is dimensioned to fit over the seat 2 in its position of use, while remaining attached to the bag. Preferably the cover member is elastic. It may have elastic edging such as a ruffle 6. The cover member 1 may be dimensioned so as to fit, in its position of use, over the vehicle steering wheel 3 as well as the seat 2. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Cover for vehicle seats The present invention relates to a cover for protecting vehicle seats against the sun, which may be used when the vehicle is parked in order to prevent the sun from damaging the upholstery of the front seats and over-heating the seats and the steering wheel.
When a vehicle is parked in a position where it is exposed to direct sunlight, the upholstery of the seats deteriorates and at the same time it is very uncomfortable for the user to sit on a seat heated by the sun.
Another inconvenience of the action of the rays of the sun inside the vehicle is the heating of the steering wheel, which makes it uncomfortable and difficult for the driver to use while it is temporarily very hot.
In order to avoid or reduce these disadvantages, there is provided by the present invention a cover for vehicle seats which gives protection against the sun and which is of simple construction.
The cover in question comprises a cover member, preferably of elastic fabric, whose dimensions enable it to cover a seat of the vehicle in which it is to be installed, and a bag to contain the cover member when not in use. The bag is fixable to the rear side of the seat back. The cover member is attached to the bag and remains attached in its position of use covering the seat. The opening of the bag may have conventional closure means as, for instance, a zip fastener. Means may be provided for holding the cover member in its position of use.
The cover member may be so dimensioned as to fit over the vehicle's steering wheel as well as the seat.
The cover member may be provided with an elastic edging, such as a ruffle. This is especially useful when the cover member is to fit over the steering wheel, as it helps the front part of the cover member to fit around the steering wheel of the vehicle and around the seat at the same time.
The present invention also provides a vehicle seat to the rear of the back of which a cover as described above has been fitted.
An embodiment of the present invention, given by way of non-limitative example, will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure lisa rear view in perspective of the front seats of a vehicle which are provided with covers embodying the present invention, the cover members being in the bags fixed to the back of each seat; Figure 2 is a similar view to Figure 1, showing the cover member for the driver's seat partially extracted from the bag; Figure 3 is similar to the previous Figures and shows the cover member for the driver's seat completely extracted from the bag and in a position of use; and Figure 4 is a rear view in perspective, but viewed from a different angle from the previous Figures, showing the cover member for the front passenger seat in a position of use.
A cover giving protection against the sun for vehicle seats comprises a cover member 1 of elastic fabric, whose shape and dimensions are suitable for covering the seat 2 and, in the case of the driver's seat, also the steering wheel 3.
The cover member is connected to the interior of a pouch or bag 4 provided in use on the rear side of the seat back and having an opening 5 with a suitable closure means. The bag 4 is of sufficient size to hold in its interior the suitably folded cover member 1.
The edge of the cover member 1 is advantageously provided with an elastic edging, such as a ruffle 6, for the purpose of fitting around the steering wheel 3, in the case of the driver's seat (Figure 3), or around the lower part of the seat in the case of the passenger's seat next to the driver (Figure 4).
In this second case it is possible to provide a conventional fastening device on the fascia board of the vehicle, in front of the seat, in order to hold the cover member in position when in use (Figure 4, broken lines).
With the aid of this cover the user of the vehicle can protect the front seats against the sun by a simple operation consisting of extracting the cover member from its bag, stretching it over the seat and fastening it either to the steering wheel, underthe seat, or on the fascia board, as appropriate. The elasticity of the fabric ensures perfect fitting of the cover member on the edges of the seat, and the elastic ruffle serves as retaining means to prevent the cover member from being accidentally detached from the seat after being placed around it.
The cover member 1 is joined to the interior of the bag 4, from which it is never completely detached, which is advantageous because a permanent area of connection is formed and facilitates the correct positioning of the cover member in use. In addition, this facilitates the storage of the cover member inside the bag when not in use.
1. A cover for protecting a vehicle seat against the sun, the cover including a bag, fixable to the rear of the back of a vehicle seat, and a cover member attached to the bag and shaped to fit, in use, over a vehicle seat of predetermined shape and size with the bag fixed to the rear of the back of the seat, the cover member being disposable in a storage position within the bag while remaining attached to the bag.
2. A cover according to Claim 1 in which the cover member is shaped, with respect to a vehicle steering wheel of a predetermined size and shape and in a predetermined position in relation to the said vehicle seat of predetermined shape and size, so as to fit, in use, over the said steering wheel while fitting over the said seat.
3. A cover according to claim 1 or claim 2, in which the said cover member is elastic.
4. A cover according to any one of the preceding claims in which the said cover member has an elastic edging.

SPECIFICATION Cover for vehicle seats The present invention relates to a cover for protecting vehicle seats against the sun, which may be used when the vehicle is parked in order to prevent the sun from damaging the upholstery of the front seats and over-heating the seats and the steering wheel. When a vehicle is parked in a position where it is exposed to direct sunlight, the upholstery of the seats deteriorates and at the same time it is very uncomfortable for the user to sit on a seat heated by the sun. Another inconvenience of the action of the rays of the sun inside the vehicle is the heating of the steering wheel, which makes it uncomfortable and difficult for the driver to use while it is temporarily very hot. In order to avoid or reduce these disadvantages, there is provided by the present invention a cover for vehicle seats which gives protection against the sun and which is of simple construction. The cover in question comprises a cover member, preferably of elastic fabric, whose dimensions enable it to cover a seat of the vehicle in which it is to be installed, and a bag to contain the cover member when not in use. The bag is fixable to the rear side of the seat back. The cover member is attached to the bag and remains attached in its position of use covering the seat. The present invention also provides a vehicle seat to the rear of the back of which a cover as described above has been fitted. A cover giving protection against the sun for vehicle seats comprises a cover member 1 of elastic fabric, whose shape and dimensions are suitable for covering the seat 2 and, in the case of the driver's seat, also the steering wheel 3. 1. A cover for protecting a vehicle seat against the sun, the cover including a bag, fixable to the rear of the back of a vehicle seat, and a cover member attached to the bag and shaped to fit, in use, over a vehicle seat of predetermined shape and size with the bag fixed to the rear of the back of the seat, the cover member being disposable in a storage position within the bag while remaining attached to the bag.
2. A cover according to Claim 1 in which the cover member is shaped, with respect to a vehicle steering wheel of a predetermined size and shape and in a predetermined position in relation to the said vehicle seat of predetermined shape and size, so as to fit, in use, over the said steering wheel while fitting over the said seat.
3. A cover according to claim 1 or claim 2, in which the said cover member is elastic.
4. A cover according to any one of the preceding claims in which the said cover member has an elastic edging.
5. A cover for protecting a vehicle seat against the sun substantially as herein described with referpence to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
6. A vehicle seat having a back to the rear of which a cover according to any one of the preceding claims is fixed by its said bag.
