Abstract
A rubber stamp handles 10 has a gripping part 11 which clips together with a die carrying part 12. The part 11 has a central cylindrical handle 14 and facets 15 sloping therefrom to the edges of the part 11. The part 11 is transparent to allow an identifying insert to be provided between the two parts and visible through part 11. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Rubber stamp handles
This invention concerns handles for rubber stamps
According to this invention there is provided a rubber stamp handle comprising a transparent gripping part attachable to a rubber die carrying part so that an insert identifying the rubber stamp can be held between said parts and be visible through the gripping part.
The insert may be positioned so that the rubber stamp can be pressed onto a surface to be printed accurately.
The gripping part preferably comprises a platform having a cylindrical handle generally centrally thereof. The platform may have a plurality of facets each sloping away from the cylindrical handle to an edge of the platform.
The preferred shape for the platform is rectangular having four-facets each sloping towards one side of the platform. However circular platforms or platforms of other polygonal shapes are also envisaged.
The cylindrical handle will be easy for the user to grip and will ensure pressure is exerted over a larger area of the rubber stamp than conventional stamps which have a centrally fixed handle. The slopping facets also help to spread the pressure evenly over the whole rubber stamp.
Furthermore, the cylindrical handle does not interfere unduly with vision of the identifying insert through the transparent gripping part.
The rubber die carrying part preferably clips together with the gripping part on a pair of opposite sides or on all sides. Alternatively or in addition, the two parts may be welded together once the identifying insert is in position.
Preferably one of the handle parts has resilient clipping edges into which the other part clips. The clipping edges will usually have a lead in portion and a recessed portion so that as the two parts are pressed together the clipping edges open out and spring back when the two parts are together with the edges of the one part held in the recess of the clipping edges of the other part.
Usually the clipping edges will be on the rubber die carrying part. However, one pair of clipping edges could be on the die carrying part and the other pair on the gripping part.
If clipping edges are provided on only one pair of opposite sides of one part of the handle, the other pair of opposite sides may have covering edges which, though not necessarily assisting retention of the other part, can protect against separation of the two parts by children.
The actual rubber die can be attached to the carrying part by any suitable adhesive.
The handle of this invention may have one or more of the following advantages: (a) It facilitates cheap and easy marking to identify rubber stamps on their handles by printing and cutting to appropriate size, paper inserts which will show through the uppertransparent layer.
(b) The paper inserts can be printed and positioned in facsimile reproduction of the positioning of the actual rubber die on the underside and therefore becomes a guide to positioning of the rubber stamps in use.
(c) These printed inserts are clearer than the previous special marking of wooden handle rubber stamps and are well protected.
(d) The cylindrical handle mounted on the upper platform, does not interfere to any significant degree with the reading of the printed paper insert contained by the stamp handle.
(e) This cylindrical handle is easy for both children and adults to hold and, as the position of their grips on it is close to the underlying transparent platform, at the same time the user can press onto the platform to gain a good overall stamping impression (i.e. the handle design leads to the pressure being evenly spread over the rubber die).
(f) The cylindrical handle exerts pressure to the base over a wider area than a conventional centrally fixed handle would do.
(g) The upper transparent platform element is thicker in the middle than at the edges and has sloping facets so that pressure is conveyed evenly over the whole rubber die.
(h) The clips along all sides of the platform are designed not to extend to the corners and, because the other element of the platform fits around them at either end, the design automatically ensures correct alignment of top and bottom elements of the platform when assembling the stamp handles. This feature enables us to incorporate rounded corners to the platforms thus avoiding scratching of childrens hands in use.
This invention will now be further described by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view from above of one form of rubber stamp handle;
Figure 2 is a perspective view from below of the handle of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an exploded section along line AA of
Figure 1; Figure4shows medial and end sections of anotherform oftwo part rubber stamp handle;
Figure 5shows in section fitting of one part of the handle of Figure 4 to the other part;
Figures 6A to Care, respectively, a plan view, a part-sectional end view and a part-sectional side view of the upper part of the handle of Figure 4; and
Figures 7A to Care, respectively, a plan view, an end view and a side view of the lower part of the handle of Figure 4.
Referring to Figures 1 to 3 of the drawings a generally rectangular rubber stamp handle 10 comprises a gripping part 11 and a rubber die carrying part 12. The gripping part 11 is of transparent plastics material and has a centrally situated cylindrical handle 14 and four facets 15 sloping downwards away from the handle 14.
Rubber die carrying part 12 is of opaque plastics material, although it may also be of transparent plastics material, and will have fixed to its lower surface a rubber die.
The two parts 11 and 12 are held together by means of a resilient clipping edge 16 around the die carrying part 12 into which the edge of the gripping part clips. The clipping edge 16 has a lead in a portion 17 and a recessed portion 18 so that when the parts 11 and 12 are pressed together the clippping edge 16 opens out slightly and springs back into place when the edge of the gripping part is in the recessed portion 18 of the clipping edge.
To make a rubber stamp, a rubber die is stuck to the lower surface of the die carrying part 12 and an insert identifying the rubber stamp placed between the parts 11 and 12 over the acutal position of the die. After clipping together of the two parts 11 and 12, they can be welded together.
Turning to Figures 4 to 7, a generally rectangular rubber stamp handle is shown which is similar in many respects to the handle of Figures 1 to 3. Thus like parts in both sets of drawings have been given the same reference numerals for simplicity and will not be described again. The following description concentrates on the differences between the two forms of handle which lies basically in the means of clipping together the gripping part 11 and the rubber die carrying part 12.
The two parts 11 and 12 clip together. The rubber die carrying part 12 has resilient clipping edges 20 along almost the full length of its two longest sides.
The clipping edges 20 have a hook-like profile forming a recess 21 into which stepped edges 22 of the longest sides of the part 11 fit. To facilitate clipping of the parts 11, together, the clipping edge 20 has a sloping lead in face 23.
The shortest sides 24 of the parts 11 and 12 merely overlie each other, by virtue of the part 11 having its ends extending beyond its side edges, so as to cover the ends 25 of the longest sides of the part 12 to which the clipping edges 20 do not extend.
When clipping the parts 11 and 12 together, one edge 22 of part 11 is placed in the recess 21 of one clipping edge 20 and the other edge 22 pressed down on the lead in face 23 of the other edge 20. This action forces that edge 20 outwards until the edge 22 of part 11 fits into recess 21 and the clipping edge 20 springs back into place.
Although the invention has been described in relation to rectangular rubber stamp handles, it will be appreciated that the various features and principles of the invention can be applied to rubber stamp handles of other shapes.
