Abstract

The board has angled slots 4 for the receipt of the stems of segments 7, which bear letters or the like for use in the forming of messages, notices etc. or the playing of games, such that the board may be passed from player to player with the segments retained therein. Each segment also has a stem protruding above its face 7a to assist in its manipulation and may carry an embossed Braille equivalent of its respective letter. The board may be disposed in a portable frame 5 having a detachable end and grooves 6b, 6c for a base and lid. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A portableframe for segment attachment.
This Invention consists of a frame containing a grid on which can be inserted segments fitted with stems to register with slots on the grid. Games can be played, messages, notices, price lists and educational excercises conveyed. The slots in the grid are so arranged to provide ease of access to the segment stems which can be positioned as required and adjusted to give a firm fixing which will withstand any moderate move mentoftheframewhen it is handed byplayerto player. The inner side ofthe frame has three groves runninngfull length, the centreto accomadatethe strips which form the slots. When a section of the frame is removed the games board can be inserted in the bottom grove, the top grove receives the lid which also serves to registerthe position of the segments on the grid. These hitherto have necessarily been posi tioned flat on a static surface, players having essentiallyto reach to position segments often distribing those on the board when so doing. By this invention the board becomes portable, the players remain static as it is handed by player to playerwhetherthey be able, bedridden or subject to most formes of apparatus prescribed. If the game requires that the segments be in the form of letters they can be embossed bythe equivalent of Braille enabling the poorly sighted to join in partner games. Reference is now made to the accompaning drawing (sheet N.) FIG. lisa plan oftheframe 1.2 shows detachable end. 3the strips which form a grid. 4 slots in the strips to accept stems.
FIG. 2. This section shows the internal sides of frame 5andthegroves6a 6b6c,thegrid in 6a and6cand 6b available for insertion of games and lid.
FIG. 3. Shows section of strips forming grid 4. The angied edges of slots give free insertion of stems of segments 7. When face of segment 7a is horizontal in sympathy with grid its stem is gripped by the angle formation ofthe strips.
FIG. 4. Side and front elevations 8 and 9 show one type of segment and 10 the face upwards plan. The embossed Braille equivalent of the letter gives the segment a dual purpose to assist the poorly sighted.
FIG. 5. Plan offrame showing adaptability to display notices educational purposes and similar.
1. Apparatus formed in a portable frame in which is contained a grid, a base and a lid to contain segments such as letters drawings and general matter depicted thereon.
2. Apparatus which can be handed from player two player if taking part in a game which hitherto needed a flat static surface on which to place a games board, without disturbance to position of segments.
3. Apparatus which contains a grid having slots in which the insertion of stems of segments is provided for. Such slots have their edges angled to suit insertion of stems and to firmly registerthe required position of the segments.
4. Apparatus which benefits by using segments fitted with stems protruding above and belowthe face to assist in their manipulation.
5. Apparatus which enables the blind to join in partner games and for others disabled in a way but able to use mouth held devices.
6. Apparatus consisting offrame grid a base to use stem fitted segments to build up notices messages price lists for public display.
7. Apparatusforusein playinggameswith especial regard to benefit the indisposed injured disabled bedridden and the blind.
8. Apparatuswith suitablesegmentto providefor public display of notices pricelists and many other services.
9. Apparatus to provide for a multiplicity of base boards in conjunction with suitable segments to form games, notices, artwork substantially as herein described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
10. Apparatus consisting of a frame containing grid, base and segments adapted for educational purposes.
