Abstract

A security fitting designed for timber framed windows has a body 1 containing a hole for insertion of a spindle 2, a hole normal to the latter hole internally threaded for cooperation with a grub screw 3 and two holes 4 to accommodate screws 5 to permit the fixing of the body to a moveable window frame 6. Pushing the spindle 2 through the body 1 into a hole 8 in the adjacent frame 7 and tightening the grub screw 3 with a compatible key causes the spindle to be locked in position thus locking the window in the closed position. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Window lock TECHNICAL FIELD The lock is to be used as a window security device.
BACKGROUND ART The background art is the application of lockable window restraints.
DISCLOSURE The window lock is composed of three main parts which are a small rectangular steel block, a short round steel spindle and a locking grub screw. The small rectangular steel block is drilled to allow permanent attachment to the opening window frame. The block is drilled so that the spindle can be inserted through the block and into the fixed window frame. A further hole is drilled normal to the spindle hole and is threaded to accommodate a locking grub screw. The advantage of using this device is that, following on from the attachment of the block to the opening window frame, the block then serves as a jig which ensures accurate drilling of a hole in the fixed window frame for final insertion of the locking spindle. This allows the device to be fitted even to distorted window frames.
DRAWING Isometric of window lock PART 1 Lock Body.
PART 2 Silver Steel Spindle.
PART 3 Locking Grub Screw.
MODE The window lock body is made from rectangular section mild steel bar, drilled and countersunk to accommodate wood screws and drilled for insertion of a silver steel spindle. A further hole is drilled and threaded to accept a locking grub screw.
EXPLOITATION The window lock would be installed by companies providing a security service and by householders, local authorities and industrial establishments wishing to improve the security of their premises.
1. A security fitting comprising of a body having two holes to accommodate fixing screws, one hole to allow the insertion of a spindle through the body and an internally threaded hole normal to the spindle hole to accommodate a locking grub screw.
2. A fitting according to claim 1 wherein the spindle hole of the body is internally threaded, and the spindle is externally threaded with a formation at one end so that the spindle can be turned by a compatible key.
3. A security fitting substantially as here it before described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
4. A package containing a plurality of fittings in accordance with any preceeding claim and a key compatible with the grub screw of each such fitting.
