Abstract
Fluid flow control system (10, 210) for a multi-stage fluid operated jack (16, 216) which eliminates the problems of jack sequencing and speed control. The flow control system (10, 210) has a source of pressurized fluid (72, 74, 272, 274), a multi-stage fluid operated jack (16, 216), a sensor (79, 279) and a valve (62, 262). The sensor (79, 279) is actuatable in response to the jack (16, 216) being at a preselected elevated position to shift the valve (62, 262) and change the rate of flow delivered from the source (72, 74, 272, 274) to the jack (16, 216) from a first preselected maximum limited flow rate to a second preselected maximum limited flow rate. Therefore, the speed of extension and sequencing of the various stages of the jack can be automatically controlled. Thus, the fluid flow control system eliminates expensive and complicated jack construction, expensive and complicated valving and reduces the problems of speed control and jack missequencing. The fluid flow control system is particularly useful in a full free lift mast.
