Abstract

A fishing aid comprises a set of ledger stops of the tube (11) and tapered plug (12) kind mounted in tear-off relationship on a card (10) together with a sliding link (13) with spaced end bosses (14) of a dimension such that, with a ledger stop on a fishing line passing through said end bosses, the stop can act to arrest the link on the line. The plugs (12) have extension noses (12b) so that the plug can be released from the tube by pressing on the tip of the nose. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Fishing aids This invention relates to fishing aids.
The present invention is concerned with devices known as ledger stops. One known form of ledger stop consists of a short tapered tube and a tapered plug (G.B. 1,476,007). A fishing line is threaded through the tube and the plug is then inserted in the tube to set it at a required position on the fishing line. This then acts as a stop on the line for tied components such as weights, hooks or floats which are slidable on the line. The need to tie knots is thereby avoided. The tubes and plugs are quite small (e.g. 5 mm maximum dimension). They are therefore difficult to handle, can easily be lost, and it can be difficult to release a plug from a tube once they are assembled together.
The present invention considers all these problems and provides initially a ledger stop comprising a short tube (not essentially tapered) and a plug for fitting in the tube in which the plug is tapered and has an extension nose freely passable through the bore of the tube, the tip of which nose projects beyond the tube when the tube and plug are assembled together so that the plug can be released from the tube by pressing on the nose. This makes release a more simple operation.
The invention then provides, as a further step, the assembly of a set of tubes and plugs mounted in "tear-off" relation at the edges of a base card. This makes for easier handling of unused ledger stops and also reduces risk of loss.
Preferably the base card also includes at least one, and preferably two, sliding links which are also held in "tear-off" relation.
The invention also provides a combination of fishing line, a ledger, and a hook having a sliding link with spaced end bosses through which the line passes and a ledger stop comprising a short tube and a tapered plug on the line arresting the link, the hook being attached to the link.
The invention will now be described further with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Fig. 1 is an elevation of one embodiment of the invention; Figs. 2,3 and 4 are views respectively in the directions of arrows II, III and IV of Fig. 1; Figs. 5,6,7 and 8 show use of the invention; and Fig. 9 shows a tube and plug engaged in section on the line IX - IX of Fig. 1.
In the drawings there is shown a base card 10 with ten tear-off ledger stop tubes 11, ten tear-off ledger stop plugs 12 and two tear-off sliding links 13. The tubes 11 are 5 mm long with a 3 mm untapered bore and the plugs 12 have a tapered part 1 2a which is 6 mm long and an extension nose 12b which is 3 mm long. The nose has a diameter of 2 mm and the maximum diameter of the tapered part 12a is 3.5 mm.
The sliding links 13 have two spaced boss parts 14 with in line holes 15, a web part 16 and a hole 17.
The manner of use of the ledger stop parts has been described above. Various ways of using the ledger stops and sliding links are now described with reference to Figs. 5 to 8.
In Fig. 5 an easily adjustable multi-hook rig is shown. A line 50 is terminated at a ledger 51. The line has four sliding links 13 threaded onto it and spaced apart with ledger stops 11/12 fixed to the line between the boss parts 14 of the links. Hooks 52 are tied to the links.
In Fig. 6 a line 60 is terminated at a ledger 61 which rests in a weed bed 62. A sliding link 13 of polyethylene (buoyant in water) is threaded on the line below a ledger stop 11/12. The link 13 carries a hook 63. The link being buoyant floats up the line to stop 11/12 and the baited hook can then lie on top of the weed bed.
In Fig. 7 a two hook flowing trace is shown. A line 70 is terminated at a hook 71 and carries two links 13 and two ledger stops 11/12. The lower ledger stop drops the lower link on the line and this link carries a hook 72. The upper ledger stop arrests the upper link 13 from sliding down the line (link 13 being denser then water) and carries a ledger 73.
In Fig. 8 a slowly sinking hook is shown. A line 80 is terminated at a ledger 87 and has a stop 11/12. A link 13 (denser than water) carrying a hook 82 is allowed to slide slowly down the line to the stop 11/12.
In Fig. 9 a tube 11 and a plug 12 from the card are shown engaged prior to the plug being pressed firmly into the tube. The tube preferably has an internal rib 11a. Four of the tubes 11 have integral minor appended tubes 1 1b.These can be used for securing a hook (like hook 72 of Fig. 7) instead of tying the hook to a sliding link.
