Description
SPECIFICATION
An improved hair cutting device
Home hair cutters which utilize cutting edge blades have been popular for a number of years, such a hair cutter is disclosed in applicants Patent
No.. 1 502732. The hair cutter disclosed therein had means to raise the cutting edge blade between two angular combs to a position, and to be supported and held firm, thus controlling the amount of hair to be cut, it will be noted that there is a spindle which is movable and contributes to the raising or lowering of the cutting edge blade, but unable to give continuance ability to move the cutting blade at will.
Variations of the above described movements of hair can be found in other Garvey Patent No.
1536613.
In the subject application, the former devices have been improved upon by constructing a device that does not need to be fixed in any position and has a free moving cutting edge blade that can operate from a deep cut of hair to be cut to one of near shaving which can be obtained by the pressure applied by the finger of the user, accordingly it is an object of the subject invention to provide a hair cutting device in which a cutting edge blade may be safely and effectuvely used in a hair cutter having a pair of metal combs at an angle of not less than 1 5 degrees, and providing means to raise and lower the blade to cut the hair wherever required. It is a further object of the subject invention to remove the cutting edge blade easily, and to replace it with the minimum of effort.
This invention relates to an improved hair cutting device of the type that incorporates two metal combs held together with the tips of the teeth touching to form a V shape, it is in this method of angularing two combs and the use of a cutting edge blade inside the two combs that makes for cutting hair neatly due to strands of hair going through the first comb, and then on to the second comb where it becomes taut pressing against the cutting edge of the blade where the hair is cut sharply and neatly as the combs traverse the contour of the head of the user, as the pressure is applied on the device more hair is passing through the combs pressing against the blade and a greater amount of hair will be cut, alternatively if no pressure is applied small amount of hair will enter the combs and it would only cut very little.
In one form of construction of the device, the blade is able to move towards the tips of the teeth of the combs to give a fine cut. The bladeholder has space in which means are provided to operate the blade and also to withdraw it as when a new blade is to be fitted.
With reference to Figs. 1-6 Fig. 1 shows one side of the frame, which is of rigid material, for example chromium plated steel 2 and has a row of closely spaced parallel teeth 3 each of circular cross section, and less than one millimetre apart, the teeth extending outwardly from a rib of width to afford a size sufficient for it to be secured to the frame. The fame 2 encloses the movable parts which will be described later, the comb 3 is one of two combs used together as in a V shape, and are used in a similar way to that of an ordinary hair comb. With reference to Fig. 6 the blade is of steel, with a cutting edge 12 and is held in a cutting position by being attached to a bladeholder Fig. 5 and is fractionally shorter than the length of the combs, the bladeholder is of rigid material, for example shim steel and is formed by a castellated-formation 11 including slots, and the pressure of insertion in the formation contributes to the blade being held firmly in the bladeholder 11 which fits into the frame, where it is positioned at the top, and can move freely downwards to the tips of the teeth of the two combs, this applied system of strands of hair passing through one angular comb and then through the second comb wherein the strands of hair become taut provides a good position to be cut by the cutting edge af the blade at right angle operating from the centre of the distance between the two combs, the amount of hair allowed into the combs is determined by the depth into which the points of the combs are immersed into the hair by press are manually applied positioned at the top of the bladeholder.
With reference to Fig. 2 this shows the form of a wedge 5 in a V shape and is of rigid material, for example aluminium, which is positioned between the two sides of frame and firmly attached to each side of the frame, with machine screws 4a and b to ensure the angular position of the two combs, and complete the enclosure of the frame.
Fig. 3
This shows the reverse side of Fig. 2 showing the groove 6 in the centre, to facilitate the movement of the edge of the bladeholder towards the apex of the combs.
Fig. 4
Shows the position of the top of the bladeholder, together with top part of attachment 10 between the two sides of the frame 2 with the top edge of the bladeholder 9 inserted in the opening of the groove 6 in the centre of the top of the bladeholder 8 there is provision in a space to use one's fingers to withdraw the bladeholder.
Fig. 5
Shows the bladeholder with the castellation 11 formation including the slots which hold the blade
12 firmly in position. The top part of the bladeholder has an attachment 10 which controls the depth of entry into the combs to ensure the blade does not protrude outside the tips of the teeth of the combs.
Fig. 6
With reference to the blade, which is of steel with a cutting edge 12 and can be threaded through the casteliation 11 easily.
Claims (8)
1. In a hair cutting device, the combination of two combs mounted on a handle, in the form of a container which serves to trap severed hair, a bladeholder adapted to receive and position a blade constituting a cutting member and means for adjusting the position of the blade holder mounted within the container.
2. A hair cutting device as claimed in claim 1 wherein the combs comprise a frame from which the teeth emerge each at an angle of not less than 15 degrees from the point of being close to each other.
3. A hair cutting device as claimed in claim 2 wherein the comb has distances between each tooth less than one millimetre apart.
4. A hair cutting device as claimed in claim 1 wherein the bladeholder is contained in the device and may be extended centrally between the teeth of the two combs.
5. A hair cutting device as claimed in claim 4 wherein the blade is attached to the bladeholder by a castellated formation including slots and the pressure of insertion in the formation contributes to the blade being held firmly.
