Description

SPECIFICATION One-way bearing This invention relates to a one-way bearing.
The object of the present invention is to provide a one-way bearing which can smoothly and steadily perform one-way rotation, has good rolling and stopping characteristics and which can be manufactured at low cost.
The present invention provides a one-way bearing comprising a female outer casing, a male casing member inserted into an open end of said outer casing, an intermediary sleeve having grooves formed in its outer peripheral surface engaging guideways formed on an inner surface of said outer casing, retainer members formed integral with said male casing member, said retainer members cooperating with a polygonal inner surface of said intermediary sleeve, a plurality of rollers loosely disposed in spaces between said retainer members and springs biassing said rollers, each of said springs being disposed in a slot in a side of a said retainer member, each said slot facing a said space, said intermediary sleeve being connectable to shaft through the intermediary of said rollers for rotation with the shaft in one direction and rotation relative to the shaft in the opposite direction.
The accompanying drawings show one preferred embodiment of one-way bearing according to this invention, wherein: Figure 1 is a side elevation in longitudinal section; Figure 2 is a front view in longitudinal section; Figure 3 is an exp!oded perspective view; Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary front view of a main portion of the bearing; and Figure 5 is a sectional detail of part of the portion shown in Figure 4.
Referring to the drawings, there is provided a one-way bearing comprising a female outer casing 1, a male casing member 2 inserted into an open end of the outer casing 1, an intermediary sleeve 5 with a plurality of grooves 4 in its outer surface for engaging with guideways 3 provided on an inside surface of the outer casing 1, retainer members 7 integral with the female casing member 2 and adapted to fit a polygonal inner surface 6 of the intermediary sleeve 5, a plurality of rollers 9 loosely inserted in the spaces 8 between adjacent members 7 of the retainer portion, and a plurality of springs 11 each of which is inserted in a side slot 10 provided in each member 7, each slot 10 being positioned to face one of the spaces 8.
Latch members 12 are provided on the open end of the female outer casing 1, each latch 1 2 being designed to engage with an aperture 13 formed in the male casing member 2 for fixation thereof. In order to perform this action smoothly, the female outer casing 1 is provided with slits 14, 14' on either side of each latch 12 so that the latches 12 may work elastically.
In use, when the intermediary sleeve 5 is rotated, by rotation of the outer casing 1, in the direction indicated by the broken-line arrow in Figure 4, the rollers 9 are caused to shift relative thereto in the opposite direction against the bias of the springs 11 so that a clearance is created between the inclined faces of the polygonal inner surface 6 of the intermediary sleeve 5 and a shaft 1 5 which is in contact with said faces through the intermediary of the rollers 9, with the result that the intermediary sleeve 5, and hence the female outer casing 1 which is keyed to the intermediary sleeve 5 by the guideways 3 and grooves 4, is freed to rotate relative to the shaft 1 5.
When the intermediary sleeve 5 is rotated in the direction indicated by the full line arrow in Figure 4, the rollers 9 are returned to their original position by the springs 11 so that the inner surface 6 of the intermediary sleeve 5 and the shaft 1 5 are again brought into contact with each other through intermediary of the rollers 9, the rollers 9 becoming wedged between said inner surface 6 and the shaft 1 5 so that they cannot rotate on their axes and the intermediary sleeve 5 and the shaft 1 5 cannot move relative to each other but can only rotate together.
As described above, a one-way bearing of the present invention is comprised of the female outer casing 1 into which is inserted the male casing member 2 wherein are disposed the intermediary sleeve 5, rollers 9 and the springs 11, thus making it very easy to assemble the components and remarkably reduce the cost therefor. Also, it is possible to employ any kind of shape for the outer casing 1 to the order of users for a wide range of uses.

A one-way bearing comprising a female outer casing, a male casing member inserted into an open end of said outer casing, an intermediary sleeve having grooves formed in its outer peripheral surface engaging guideways formed on an inner surface of said outer casing retainer members formed integral with said male casing member, said retainer members cooperating with a polygonal inner surface of said intermediary sleeve, a plurality of rollers loosely disposed in spaces between said retainer members and springs biassing said rollers, each of said springs being disposed in a slot in a side of a said retainer member, each said slot facing a said space, said intermediary sleeve being connectable to a shaft through the intermediary of said roller for rotation with the shaft in one direction and rotation relative to the shaft in the opposite direction.
2. A one-way bearing according to claim 1, wherein said polygonal inner surface of said intermediary sleeve is connectable to a said shaft through the intermediary of said rollers and wherein the arrangement is such that when the intermediary sleeve is rotated in one direction relative to said shaft said rollers will shift relative to the intermediary sleeve in the opposite direction against the bias of said springs to create a clearance between said polygonal inner surface and said shaft so as to free said intermediary sleeve, and hence said female outer casing, for
