Abstract
Wet granular solids are dried in a fluidised bed by a current of hot air in chamber 2, and the air passes upwards from the bed and inwards through filter bags 14, which are provided with Venturi nozzles 22 and compressed air jets 28 to blow the accumulated dust periodically from their outer surfaces and back into the chamber 2 or to the bottom of the filter chamber 2. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Dryer/filter system with filter cleaning device
This invention relates to a drying apparatus equipped with a device for cleaning automatically and cyclially, the filters where removal of the deposited dust is performed mechanically and recirculated to the dryer.
In the usual drying systems for granular and similar materials, the air from the dryer which carries dust particles in suspension is filtered by causing it to pass through the interior of filtering bags while the clean air is aspirated on the outside of said bags and returned to the atmospheric or recirculated, if required.
The dust layer or cake which collects inside said bags rapidly forms an obstacle to the passage of air and reduces the performance of the system.
The filters are equipped with suitable mechanical rapping systems for the filter bags to remove the accumulated dust layer deposited on the bags themselves.
The bag filters are so arranged that the fouled air flows through the bags centrifugally so that detachment and removal of the deposited dust must take place frequently whilst disposal of the dust removed from the bags is quite difficult.
To obviate these and other drawbacks is the scope of the present invention in the sense that it ensures and facilitates removal of the deposited dust in the filtering bags, ensuring an average flow of the filtered air, increasing performance and hence operating economy of the system.
The system according to the invention, in which the granular material is distributed on the dryer grate, above which is fitted the chamber with the filter bags provided with means for removal of the dust deposited on them, is characterized in that the filtering chamber is connected directly to the underlying drying chamber, while the dirty (polluted air) is conveyed to the filter bags in a centripetal direction to collect the dust on the exterior of said bags, thereby facilitating flow of the dust into the underlying dryer.
According to this invention, the filter bags are combined with nozzles which cause detachment of the dust layer cake deposited on the exterior of said bags, consent to drop into the underlying and thence convey to a collecting bin.
The invention will now be described with reference to the annexed drawing, which illustrates, by way of example, one form of embodiment of the dryer/filter with pneumatic cleaning and dust removal device.
Specifically
Figures 1 and 2 are side views and top views of the filter dryer assembly according to the invention, with parts in cross-section.
In the Figures of the drawing, the dryer of the assembly is identified with letter A and the filter with letter (B). The drying chamber 2 receives the dust laden moist material introduced by a screw conveyor K and which is subjected to a hot air current from an underlying chamber 4 into which air is admitted due to the negative pressure (draft) created by filter B and/or produced by a fan 6 combined with a pre-heating device 7.
The hot air originating from the discharge throat 8, crosses the material to be dried loaded on the grate of drying chamber 2 and is conveyed, through suitable apertures in a plate 10, which separated dryer A from filter B and delimits in the latter filtering chamber 12.
Said chamber houses a plurality of bag filters 14 (retained) secured at their top end by a filter bearing plate 16 which delimits in the top part of said chamber 12 a suction chamber 18 connected to an aspirator 20 which aspirates the hot air from device 7, which, as already stated, and if required can be associated with fan 6.
Each filter bug 14, held by plate 16, is provided, at its aperture with a nozzle 22 combined with a venturi and fed by a gas under pressure from a conduit 26.
The polluted air originating from dryer A through bag 14 in the centripetal sense and the dust deposit on the exterior of said bags and forms a stratified external layer, whilst the clean air is aspirated by fan 20. The clean air can thus be discharged or recirculated into dryer A either directly or through fan 6.
The blowing nozzles 22 are governed by one or more solenoid valves H, cyclically controlled to introduce compressed air jets, in groups of filter bags 14, with opening of the communication between a header 24 and conduits 26.
The action of the air pressure jets is increased by the presence of venturi devices 22 so that a greater pressure than that in filter chamber 12 is created, inside the bags considered, thereby to improve the detachment of the dust panel on said bags. The removal of the outer dust layer is greatly facilitated because the air pressure inside filter bag 14 considered, delates and blows up said bag thereby enhancing and causing detachment of the dust panel or layer which drops on the bottom of filtering chamber 12 (from where it can be removed in the known manner) or into the underlying drying chamber2.
The dried dust laden material is discharged, through mouth 9, provided on the side of dryer A and suitably collected.
From what above described it is evident that the objectives of the invention are achieved in particular, the automatic continuity and efficiency of the filtering action is ensured in that formation on bags 14 of dust layers of excessive thickness which would obstruct the flow of the air is inhibited.
Moreover, with the system according to this invention it is possible to treat materials with different particle sizes, up to a few microns, whilst maintaining average airflow 5 to 10 times higher with respect to that ocurring in the known plants where the dust layer or cake is caused to adhere to the surface of the filter bags in that the layer is located inside the bags themselves and during cleaning, the pressure applied from the outside of the bags, causes the latter to shrink and constipates the dust layer centripetally.
