Abstract
210,992. Caink, T. Feb. 15, 1923. Washing-apparatus with screens; stationary-vessel washing-apparatus. -In washing machines, the material and water are agitated together by compressed air, so that the water is caused to circulate and return repeatedly to the material which it washes and causes to pass to an outlet. A trough is divided into three parts A<1> .. A<3> by plates B<1>, B<2>, the material being fed by a hopper C into the part A<2> and water into the end K. Compressed air is led into a duct H beneath a perforated plate J or porous tile, driving the water up over the tops of the plates B<1>, B<2> and conveying away the dirt over weirs E to a pipe G. Part of the water returns beneath the plates and causes the material to gravitate to the outlet K. For washing heavy material another and adjustable grid L, placed over the bottom edges of the plates B', B<2>, is provided, having suitably inclined perforations for accelerating the movement of the material towards the outlet.
