Coating; coating non-metallic surfaces with metals.-In an apparatus for spraying and projecting metals, the blow-pipe 9 is separate from the mechanism 4 for feeding the wires 5 from drum 7 to be melted and sprayed, and is mounted on a support 51 which also carries tubes 52 through which the metal wires 5 are fed, and is provided with a holder 11 by which it is manipulated by the operator. The framing of the mechanism 4 comprises side plates 14 to which are secured by screws 13 an electric motor 3 and which are provided with front lugs 16, to which is secured a fibre cross-piece 17, and rear lugs 19, to which are secured insulating pieces 20 having mouthpieces 21 for guiding the wires 5. The parts 14 are connected by a tube which serves as a bearing for a shaft 18 which is driven bv means of a chain 29 from the motor 3 and which carries at each end a fibre wheel 31 having a grooved ring 32 of steel &c. secured thereon. Rollers 33 bear on the rings 32 and are fed forward by the motion of the shaft 18. The rollers 33 are carried by shafts 34 on forked members 35 pivoted at 36 to the parts 37 secured to the part 17 and are kept in contact with the rings 32 by springs 24 which are secured at one end to the parts 35 and are adjustably mounted, at the other end, in lugs 22 formed on the plates 14. A metal plate 40, to which mouthpieces 41 are fixed to receive the wires 5 fed forward by the rollers 33 is secured to the parts 37 by nuts 39, and the mouthpieces 41 are extended forward to form tubes 42 on which are secured the flexible tubes 8 which consist of wire spirals 43 through which the wires 5 pass and insulating coverings 44. Current is conveyed to the wires for the melting of the same by conductors connected to the parts 37 by the nuts 39.
