Abstract

This invention relates to a composition for the treatment of scalp and hair to retard loss and maintain and enhance the growth of hair by topical application of a composition containing a mixture of metallic salts and phosphates, essential to the metabolism of living animal cells, together with carbohydrates, amino acids, vitamins and oils, formulated in such a way as to give maximum penetration into the scalp and stimulation of cells.

Description

SPECIFICATION A composition for the treatment of scalp and hair to retard loss and maintain and enhance the growth of hair We, Falcus Scientific Laboratories of Thorp Arch Park, Wetherby, do hereby declare the invention for which we pray that a patent may be grated to us, and the method by which it is to be performed to be particularly described in and by the following statement:- This invention relates to a composition for the treatment of scalp and hair to retard loss and maintain and enhance the growth of hair.
The composition according to the invention is essentially a mixture of metallic salts and phosphates essential to the metabolism of living cells or one or more of the above ingredients. The composition is further improved by the addition of wetting/penetrating agents, vitamins, amino acids, carbohydrates and oils. Application of the composition will enhance and improve the condition of the scalp, the growth of hair, and retard hair loss even in the presence of scalp disorders e.g. Alopecia, but will not, in general, treat the loss of hair occurring as a consequence of primary organic disease or poisoning. The composition according to the invention also assists in the control of dandruff.
Thus, the present invention, providing a composition for the treatment of scalp and hair by topical application, comprises metallic salts and phosphates, inorganic and/or organic in nature together with surfactants to aid penetration; carbohydrates and oils, to supply energy to the cells of the scalp, amino acids and vitamins, presented in the form of a solution, dispersion, lotion or cream, produced by the use of a cosmetically acceptable emulsifier, with the addition of preservatives, colourants and perfumes if/and as required.
All the compositions of the invention are preferably provided in a suitable container with written instructions for use in maintaining, enhancing hair growth and retarding loss.
In use the composition according to the invention is massaged lightly into the skin or scalp twice daily until the required effects are obtained.
Clinical experiments on fifty people have shown compositions according to the invention to be: a/ Stimulants for promotion of hair growth.
b/ Retardants to loss of hair.
c/ Controllers for seborrhoeic dermatitis.
d/ Non toxic or irritant to the skin after prolonged use, and to have no untoward side effects.
The following non-limiting examples serve to illustrate the invention: EXAMPLE I A. Ferrous gluconate 0.3 parts Calcium orthophosphate 0.3 parts Glucose 0.1 parts Sorbitan monooleate 1.0 parts Water 84.9 parts B. Cetomacrogol 1000 BP. 8.0 parts White oil 5.0 parts Heat mixtures A and B to 50-700C and emulsify, with efficient stirring while cool. Add preservative perfume and colour as required and 0.4 parts Hydrogendiammoniumphosphate.
EXAMPLE II A. Ferrous succinate 0.3 parts Magnesium glycerophosphate 0.4 parts Ammonium acetate 0.4 parts Sucrose 0.1 parts Ethonylated fatty alcohol 1.0 parts Water 84.8 parts B. Cetomacrogol 1000 BP. 8.0 parts Mineral oil 3.0 parts Almond oil 2.0 parts EXAMPLE Ill A. * E.D.T.A. ferric chelate 0.2 parts Manganese acetate 0.2 parts Calcium orthophosphate 0.2 parts Protamine 0.1 parts Water 89.0 parts B. Cetomacrogol 1000 BP. 5.0 parts Mineral oil 3.0 parts Vegetable oil 2.0 parts Zinc stearate 0.3 parts Heat mixtures A and B to 50-700C and emulsify whilst cool in both Examples II and III.
1. A composition for the treatment of scalp and/or hair by topical administration, comprising as active ingredients, inorganic and/or organic salts of Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Calcium, Zinc and Copper and inorganic and/or organic phosphates, or one or more of the above mentioned salts.
2. A composition as claimed in 1, in association with written or printed instructions for use in maintaining and enhancing hair growth, the said * E.D.T.A. is ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid.
