Abstract
A roller shutter assembly comprises a roller curtain 10 and a guide section 16 formed in one piece and comprising a guide channel portion 18 and a box portion 20, the dimensions of the box portion being such as to locate the guide channel portion 18 at the required distance from a wall 14. The guide channel sections are affixed to the wall on either side of a door opening and retain the inturned end 30 of the roller curtain 10 to prevent the latter from being pulled free in use. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION.
Guide section
This invention relates to improved guide sections, particularly for use with roller curtain shutters.
Roller shutters are commonly used for such applications as garage and warehouse doors. The shutter curtain generally comprises a series of articulated slats forming a curtain which may be rolled up on a roller located above the doorway, and a pair of guide channels for guiding the roller curtain as it moves up and down opening and closing the doorway. The guide channels are commonly a simple U-sectioned channel located in position, and fixed to the wall, by means of an angle bracket fixed to the wall and to the guide channel.
The invention seeks to provide a simpler and more economical guide section for a roller shutter system.
According to the present invention there is provided a guide section, formed in one piece, which comprises a guide channel portion and a box portion, the dimensions of the box portion being such as, in use, to locate the guide channel portion at the required distance from a wall.
The invention also provides a roller shutter assembly which comprises a roller curtain adapted to move up and down in a pair of channel sections constructed according to the invention and affixed to the wall on either side of a door opening.
The invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:~
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic view of part of a roller shutter system constructed in accordance with the invention; and
Figure 2 is-a sectional view of the guide section according to the invention.
Referring to the drawings, a rolling shutter system comprises a roller curtain 10 adapted to be rolled onto a roller (not shown) located above the doorway 12. The wall 14 on either side of the doorway 12 is affixed thereto a guide section 16 constructed according to the invention. The guide section 16 comprises a channel portion 18 and a box portion 20. The box portion 20 is dimensioned so as to locate the channel portion 18 at the required distance from the wall 14. The roller is received in the guide channel portion 18 of the guide section 16 where it is guided in a similar manner to conventional roller systems.
The guide section 16 may be affixed to the wall 14 by means of an angle bracket 22, bolted to the section 16 at 24 and bolted to the wall 14 at 26.
One advantage of the construction of the invention is that the means of fixing the angle bracket 22 to the section 16 is remote from the locus of movement of the roller curtain 10 and so fixing bolts and the like do not interfere with the smooth running of the roller curtain 10.
Alternatively, if desired, the angle bracket 22 may be dispensed with and the guide section 16 affixed directly to the wall 14 by means of a bolt 58 (shown dotted in Figure 1). If the latter means is used, it is desirable for the section 1 6 to have a series of holes in its lower wall opposite the bolts 28 so that appropriate bolt turning means can be inserted within the box portion 20 to secure the bolts 28. These holes may be covered with grommets when not in use.
A further advantage of the guide section of the invention is that it allows an upturned end portion 30 to be located on the roller curtain 10. The length of the end portion 30 is just greater than the channel portion 10 and this prevents the roller curtain 10 being pulled from the guide section 16 in use. This is particularly useful when a light gauge roller curtain is employed which may, under the action of wind or other forces, tend to be pulled out of a conventional guide section.
1. A guide section, formed in one piece, which comprises a guide channel portion and box portion, the dimensions of the box portion being such, in use, as to locate the guide channel portion at the required distance from a wall.
2. A roller shutter assembly which comprises a roller curtain adapted to move up and down in a pair of channel sections according to claim 1 and affixed to the wall on either side of the door opening.
3. An assembly as claimed in claim 2 in which the channel sections are affixed to the wall by means of an angle bracket bolted to the box section and bolted to the wall.
4. An assembly as claimed in claim 2 in which the guide sections are affixed directly to the wall by bolts passing through the box portions.
5. An assembly as claimed in claim 4 in which the guide section has a series of holes to allow appropriate bolt turning means to be inserted within the box portion to fix the section to the wall.
6. An assembly as claimed in any one of 2 to 5 in which the roller curtain has an inturned end portion just greater than the width of the channel portion thereby preventing the roller curtain being pulled free from the guide section in use.
7. A guide section substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
8. A roller curtain assembly substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated the accompanying drawings.
