Abstract

210,245. Sulman, H. L., and Picard, H. F. K. Dec. 15, 1922. Flotation apparatus.-Apparatus by means of which tests on small quantities of materials to be submitted to froth-flotation can be carried out and the results observed comprises a transparent vessel 4 having a porous septum 10 at the bottom, an inlet 7 for ore pulp, a froth overflow 9 preferably constricted at 5, and means such as a hand bellows 17 for admitting air below the septum 10. The ore water and reagents are first shaken up in a separate graduated bottle 1, Fig. 2, having a tap 2 and preferably a corked side outlet 3, the nature of the froth being observed; the contents of the bottle are then introduced into the apparatus 4 and a froth is formed by gentle aeration. The aeration is afterwards increased to discharge the froth into a vessel 19, the operations being continued until the froth driven over is found to carry no further mineral. The flotation reagent, such as pine oil or cresol, may be emulsified with water in an apparatus comprising a vessel 30 having stationary baffles 32 and paddles 33 on a spindle 34 arranged to be driven at high speed by hand gearing connected to a pulley 36.
