Abstract

Tools for setting-out work.-A tool for centering the ends of rods &c. comprises two relatively rotatable discs 1, 4, one of which is provided with a number of radial slots 2 and the other with a corresponding number of spiral or equivalent slots 5, and a number of work-engaging devices 7 mounted in the slots so that, upon rotation of the discs relatively to each other, the devices 7 move uniformly and simultaneously towards or from a centre punch 3, or a perforation to receive a marking device, disposed at the centre of the discs. The devices 7 are preferably of channel formation to guide them in the, slots 2 and have V- shaped flanges 8 to engage the work. Screws 6 provided on the devices 7 pass through the slots 5 and carry rollers bearing against the edges of these slots. A guiding rim 11 for the edge of the disc 4 may be provided on the disc 1. The centre punch 3 is mounted in a guide boss 10 on the disc 4 and may be retained therein by a pin or spring ring in the boss engaging a groove in the punch. A spring may also be arranged to hold the punch normally in retracted position. Operating projections 9 may be provided on the disc 4.
