Description
SPECIFICATION
Circuit breaker
Field of the invention
The present invention relates to a circuit
breaker. More particularly, it relates to an
improved structure of a terminal cover having
excellent fitting and locking properties which
protects the terminal of the circuit breaker and
prevents accidental touch to the charged
terminal.
Figure 1 shows a terminal cover of the
conventional circuit breaker wherein the reference
numeral (1) designates the casing of a circuit
breaker body, (2) designates a terminal cover
covering a charged portion, (2A) designates an
orificed projection formed on the terminal cover
(2), (3) designates a fitting screw for fitting the
terminal cover (2) to the casing (1), (4) designates
a locking screw for fitting and locking the terminal
cover (2) to the casing (1), (5) designates a
locking wire which passes through the orificed
projection (2A) of the terminal cover (2) and the
locking screw (4).
In the structure of the terminal cover of the
conventional circuit breaker, when the terminal
cover (2) is fitted to the casing (1) by the fitting
screw (3) and the locking screw (4), it is
necessary to embed a nut for engaging the fitting
screw (3) and the locking screw (4). in the casing
made of synthetic resin or to directly form a
female screw hole in the casing (1). The former
structure has a disadvantage of a high
manufacturing cost because ofmolding a special
casing. The latter structure has a disadvantage in that the female screw hole is easily broken by
repeated fastening operations because the
strength of the casing is small.*Furthermore, attaching and detaching operations of the
terminal cover (2) is troublesome because it is
necessary to fit and remove the fitting screw (3)
and the locking screw (4).
Summary of the invention:
It is an object of the present invention to
overcome the disadvantages of the conventional
circuit breaker and to provide a circuit breaker which allows instant attaching and detaching
operation of a terminal cover as well as locking
operation.
The foregoing and the other object of the present invention have been attained by providing
a circuit breaker having a terminal exposing on
the casing which comprises a terminal cover of
insulating material which has insertion holes
formed near said terminal and having an inner
shoulder portion, a covering portion for covering
said terminal, and a substantially U-shaped
flexible projection which is to be inserted into said
insertion hole and which has a flexible engaging
piece provided with an engaging projection for
engaging said shoulder portion.
Brief description of the drawings:
Figure 1 is a schematic view of the conventional circuit breaker;
Figures 2 to 7 show schematically an important part of an embodiment of the circuit breaker of the present invention in which Figure 2 is a front view of a terminal;
Figure 3 is a side view of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a front view of a terminal cover;
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken along A-A line of Figure 4; and
Figure 7 is a view similar to Figure 6.
Detailed description of the preferred embodiment:
An embodiment of the circuit breaker of the present invention will be described with reference to Figures 2 to 7.
In the figures, the casing (1) of a circuit breaker comprises a cover ( 1 A) and a base (18). A pair of insertion holes ( 1 C), ( 1 D) are formed in the cover ( 1 A) and the base ( 1 B) so as to pass through them in alignment and each hole receives a fitting bolt for fitting the circuit breaker to a fitting panel (7).
A shoulder portion ( 1 E) is formed at the upper portion of the insertion hole (it). A terminal (1 F) exposes on the casing (1) and a terminal cover (2) made of insulation material is placed to cover the terminal ( 1 F). A substantially U-shaped, flexible projection (2C) is formed on the inner surface of the terminal cover. The flexible projection is to be inserted into the upper portion of the insertion hole ( 1 C) on one side. The flexible projection (2C) has its free end (2F) as an engaging piece for engagement on which an engaging projection (2E) is formed to engage with the shoulder portion (1 E).A projecting pole (2D) is formed on the terminal cover and projects in substantially parallel to the flexible projection (2C) so as to be inserted into the other insertion hole ( 1 D). A raised portion (2A) having an opening for locking (2B) is formed on the upper surface of the terminal cover (2). A locking rod (6) having a head at the top in which an opening for locking (6A) is formed is used to insert it into a U-shaped recess (2G) formed in the flexible projection (2C). The reference numeral (5) designates a locking wire which is passed into both the openings for locking (2B), (6A).
In the structure described above, when the flexible projection (2C) and the projecting pole (2D) formed on the terminal cover (2) are respectively inserted into the insertion hole ( 1 C), (1 D) formed in the casing (1) in order to fit the terminal cover (2) to the casing, the U-shaped flexible projection (2C) is inserted by a predetermined depth by utilizing flexibility of the engaging piece (2F) whereby the engaging projection (2E) is engaged with the shoulder portion (1 E) in the insertion hole.
Locking of the terminal cover is carried out as shown in Figures 6 and 7. That is, the locking rod (6) is inserted into the U-shaped recess (2G) from the surface side of the terminal cover (2) and then the locking wire (5) is passed through both the opening for locking (6A) formed in the locking rod (6) and the opening for locking (2B) of the raised portion (2A) formed on the surface of the terminal cover (2). The terminal cover (2) cannot be removed unless the locking wire (5) is removed.
When removal of the terminal cover (2) is desired, the locking wire (5) is first removed, a force is applied from the outside to deflect the engaging piece (2F) of the flexible projection (2C) of the terminal cover (2) in the direction (B) thereby disconnecting the engaging projection (2E) from the shoulder portion (1 E), and the locking rod (6) is pulled out from the U-shaped recess (2G), thus the terminal cover (2) is easily removed in a simple manner.
As described above, attaching or detaching and locking of the terminal cover is easily carried out and the shape of the terminal cover can be simplified and is economical because existing insertion holes for insertion bolts can be utilized.
