Abstract

A container for paint or other liquids comprising a projection spaced inwardly from the side of the container by an amount sufficient to provide a lip on which a charged brush can be drawn. Preferably, the container has a shelf 5 located below the top of walls 2, 3, and into a hole in which shelf a lid 6 of transparent plastics is fitted. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Containers for paint or other similar liquids This invention relates to containers for paint of other similar liquids.
According to the present invention a container for paint or other liquids comprises a projection spaced inwardly from the side of the container by an amount sufficient to provide a lip on which a charged brush can be drawn. Preferably the projection comprises an opening spaced at least in part from the sides of the container.
The lip is preferably spaced inwardly by the same amount around the whole of the top of the container.
The opening may be closed either by a translucent or transparent lid, or a conventional opaque lid may be used. With the former arrangement the colour of the paint in the container can readily be seen.
Preferably the lid is replaceable and is conveniently a press fit within the container.
The lip is referably straight sided and conveniently the container is rectangular.
This lip may also be rectangularly arranged parallel to the sides of the container.
A carrying handle may also be provided.
The invention may be performed in various ways and one specific embodiment will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a container according to the present invention, and Figure 2 is an end view of the container shown in Fig. 1.
The container shown in Fig. 1 is indicated generally at 1 and comprises end walls 2 and side walls 3, the end walls 2 both being vertical and arranged at right angles to one another and joined by rounded corners 4. The end walls 2 are shorter than the side walls 3.
At the top of the container there is provided a shelf 5 arranged around the top of the container and disposed below the top of the walls 2 and 3 and sealed with respect to the walls 2 and 3. The shelf 5 has fitted into it a lid 6 of plastics material which has a recessed portion 7 and side walls 8 from which extends a horizontally projecting flange 10. The lid 7 is arranged to be a press fit within the opening provided by the shelf 5. A carrying handle 9 is provided, either as shown, or at 90 there to.
The lid is of transparent plastics material and is thus replaceable.
It will be appreciated that with the shelf 5 the lid is spaced inwardly and also downwardly from the edge of the can and this enables a lip or shelf to be provided on which it is possible to draw a paint brush so as to wipe paint off it to the desired quantity, and as the lip is spaced inwardly and downwardly paint will not spill down the outside of the container.
Moreover by having a transparent or translucent lid it is possible to see the colour of the paint in the container without the necessity for labels. Moreover, better control over pouring can be provided.
By having the lip straight edged the charged brush can be drawn to remove excess liquid and ensure even loading of the liquid along the width of the paint brush or similar instrument.
The container is obviously not limited to paint but can be used for all sorts of products, particularly where the user can readily view the colour of the product, and where viscous or semi-viscous liquid may be used, the lip need not be arranged around the whole container but could be in part only, or even in the form of a projection.
Moreover, although a transparent or translucent lid of plastics material has been referred to, it may not be practical or appropriate for all cases, in which case a conventional opaque lid of other material such as metal may be used.
1. A container for paint or other liquids comprising a projection spaced inwardly from the side of the container by an amount sufficient to provide a lip on which a charged brush can be drawn.
2. A container as claimed in claim 1 in which the projection comprises an opening spaced at least in part from the sides of the container.
3. A container as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 in which the opening is spaced below the top of the container.
4. A container as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3 in which the lip is spaced inwardly by the same amount around the whole of the top of the container.
5. A container as claimed in any one of the preceding claims in which the opening is closed either by a translucent or transparent lid.
6. A container as claimed in any one of the preceding claims in which the lid is a press-fit within the container.
7. A container as claimed in any one of the preceding claims in which the lip is straight sided.
8. A container as claimed in any one of the preceding claims which is rectangular.
9. A container as claimed in claim 8 in which the lip is rectangularly arranged parallel to the sides of the container.
10. A container as claimed in any one of the preceding claims having a carrying handle.
11. A container as claimed in any one of the preceding claims substantially described as herein with reference to and as shown in
