Abstract

To make it possible in a simple manner to adjust the spreading height of a distributor (Fig. 1) relative to the ground each nozzle (13) of the distributor has a spreader plate (16) which can be moved into either of two positions, the spreader plate (16) directing the fertilizer either to the ground or upwardly. The spreader plate is retained on the nozzle body by a snap fastening device (18, 19). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Distributor for fertilizer or other substance This invention relates to a distributor for fertilizer or other substance. The distributor comprises several nozzles to which fertilizer in the form of for example a chemical product is distributed from a hopper for further spreading over the ground, each nozzle having a spreader plate which is movable between two positions, the spreader plate in one position being directed so that the fertilizer is spread downwards whereas in the second position it is spread upwards.
In spreading for example fertilizer by means of a distributor it is desirable to adjust the distance between a spreader means and the ground or standing crops so that an even distribution is obtained over the entire working width of the distributor. If the spreader means are placed too high above the ground spreading becomes sensible to wind, and if placed too low spreading is impaired. Pneumatic distributors with fixed spreader plates, each having a spreading width of 1.5-2m, usually operate well since the distance from spreader plate to ground is comparatively short. In such machines, however, it is impossible to find an ideal height for the spreader means when spreading both on ground without crops and on standing crops. In some machines this problem has been solved by making the entire part supporting the spreader plates adjustable in height. This is however not applicable to all types of machines, particularly not in mounted devices. In these machines it has been proposed to loosen the spreader plate and turn it through 180 about an axis parallel to the driving direction of the machine. A drawback of this arrangement is that it is time-consuming, since the spreader plates have to be removed bath from the hoses to which they are connected and from the arms to which they are screwed.
It is also known to use spreader plates which are fastened near the outlet opening of the pipes through which the fertilizer is blown, see German Specification No. 2,335,167, in which the spreader plates can be adjusted to assume different angular positions with respect to the outlet opening in order to change the spreading effect. However, these devices are comparatively complicated and have therefore not been much used in practice.
An object ot this invention is to provide a device which, without the use of tools, can be readily adjusted to satisfy different demands.
According to the invention a distributor comprises several nozzles to which the fertilizer or other substance is distributed from a hopper for spreading over a ground surface, each nozzle having a spreader plate which is movable betwen two positions, the spreader plate in one position being directed so that the substance is spread downwards and in the other position so that it is spread upwards, wherein the spreader plate is detachably connected to the nozzle and can be fixed in at least two different positions by means of a snap fastening device.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to the drawing, in which: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a spreader plate fastened to an outlet opening; and Figures 2 to 4 are different views of the spreader plate of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing, the distributor comprises two parts, a first part 10, which by way of a hose connector 11 is connected to the hose which, for example by means of pneumatic air, delivers fertilizer or other substance to the distributor from a hopper. This first part 10 is fastened to a machine by screws passing through holes 1 2. The part 10 is tubular and extends from the hose connector 11 via a flattened, downwardly open tube part 1 3 to an outlet opening 14. Near the opening 1 4 is a second part 1 5. This is a corrugated plate 1 6 which has two parallel arms 1 7 extending at an angle of substantially 50 to 60 from the plane of the plate 1 6 and situated on each side of it.Each arm 1 7 has two recesses 18, which face one another and co-operate with two guides 1 9 disposed on each side of the first part 1 0. These guides and recesses are so shaped that the second part 1 5 can be snapped on to the first part 10 in one of the positions shown in Fig. 1. To move the plate between the different positions the arms 1 7 are loosened from the guides 1 9 after which the part 1 5 is turned through 1 SOD about an axis parallel to the direction of movement of the machine. Then the arms are again applied to the guides and the part is fastened in the new position.
