Abstract

A tipping container comprises a base frame (10) upon which is mounted and pivotally attached a container (1) between which and the base frame are connected operating means adapted to pivot said container about its pivotal connection to said frame so as to tip material, contained within said container, from said container. The pivot attachment of the container (1) to the base frame (10) is preferably such as to pivot the container along one edge of the base of said container, said base frame includes two members (8) running substantially at right angles to the pivotal connection (6) adapted to receive the tines of a fork lift to allow the tipper container to be transported; there being provided fluidic operating rams (2) each connected between the frame (10) and a respective one of the container's sides which are adjacent the pivotal connection (6), so as, in use, to pivot said container about its pivotal connection (6) to tilt said container relative to the base; and the side (5) of the container (1) at the pivotal connection (6) being releasably pivoted at the top of the container so as to allow the said side to pivot away from the base of said container when said container is tilted to allow material within said container to slide out of said container. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Tipper container The present invention relates to a tipping container and in particularly to a portable tipping container which can be transported by forklift and placed on trays of trucks for transportation and tipping.
In one broad form the invention comprises a tipping container comprising: A base frame; A container mounted upon said base frame and pivotally attached to said frame; and operating means connected between said frame and said container which is adapted to pivot said container about its pivotal connection to said frame so as to tip material, contained within said container, from said container.
The present invention therefore provides a tipping container which is large enough to contain a substantial amount of waste, yet it is small enough to be transported by a forklift truck and which can be loaded upon a trailer for transportation and can be tipped to remove waste contained therein.
The present invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows a perspective view of one embodiment of the invention; Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the embodiment of Figure 1 in its tipping position.
The tipping container of the present invention as illustrated in the accompanying drawings comprises a rectangular container 1 which is hingedly connected by its pivot 6 to the base frame 10. This base frame 10 being of sufficient weight to allow the tipper container to be stable when the container 1 is in its tipping position. Running beneath the container 1 and connected to the frame 10 are two members 8 (Figure 2) each of which are hollow or have longitudinal slots 9 into which the tines of a forklift can be inserted. These members 8 are so located that the tipper container is stable when it is lifted by a fork truck.
Connected between the frame 10 and the container 1 are two hydraulic extension rams 2 located on opposite sides of the container. These rams 2 are controlled by the activator 3 which is connected to the two rams 2 by the hydraulic piping 7. Upon activation of these rams 2 the container 1 pivots about its pivotal axis 6 such that the base 11 of the container is in an inclined position so that material within the container slides along the base of the container under the influence of gravity.
To facilitate removal of material in the container the side 5 adjacent the hinge 6 is pivotally connected at the top of the container and is releasably secured at the base of the container near the hinge by a locking mechanism. Activation of the lever 12 release the locking mechanism and allows the side 5 to pivot under the influence of gravity when the container is in its inclined position (tipping position) such that material contained within said container slides under the influence of gravity from the container.
The tipping container according to the present invention can be made in any shape or size dependent upon its desired use. The materials of construction can be of any suitable material such as metal stainless steel or plastics, depending upon the materials to be carried within the container and the use to which a container is put. Instead of using a hydraulic activating ram, a pneumatic ram could be used or a mechanical operating means, such as some form of screw arrangement.
1. Atipping container comprising a base frame; a container mounted upon said base frame and pivotally attached to said frame; and operating means connected between said frame and its container which is adapted to pivot said container about its pivotal connection to said frame so as to tip material, contained within said container, from said container.
2. Atipping container according to claim 1 wherein said base frame includes transverse members into which the tines of a fork lift can be inserted to lift the container.
3. A tipping container according to claims 1 or 2 wherein the wall of the container, at the pivotal connection, is pivoted to the top of the container such that upon the container being pivoted the said wall of the container can be released and pivots away from the base of the container allowing the material within the container to slide out of the container.
4. A tipping container according to any one of the preceding claims wherein said operating means comprises fluidic ram means.
5. A tipping container according to claim 4 wherein there are two fluidic rams, each located on opposed sides of the container adjacent the pivotal connection.
6. Atipping container comprising a base frame; a container mounted on said base frame and pivotally attached to said base frame so as to pivot along one edge of the base of said container; two members in said base frame running substantially at right angles to pivotal connection, said members being adapted to receive the tines of a fork lift to allow the tipper container to be transported; fluidic operating rams, each of which are connected between the frame and a respective one of the container's sides which are adjacent the pivotal connection, so as to, in use, pivot the said container about its pivotal connection so as to tilt said container relative to the base; and the side of the container at the pivotal connection being releasably pivoted at the top of the container so as to allow the said side to pivot away from the base of said container when said container is tilted to allow material within said container to slide out of said container.
