Abstract

The Walking Stick Stool is, in its 'closed' position a two point contact walking stick, and in its 'open' position, a four point contact stool. It is constructed from an inner inverted 'U' piece and two outer members, with cross-members employed to make the inner and outer members into rigid frames. The two frames are attached to each other in a manner which allows them to open and close in a scissor action. The stool 'seat' is attached to a pair of cross-members, one on the inner and one on the outer members. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Walking-stick stool General description A new combination Walking-Stick Stool providing a light-weight and convenient walking-stick when in the closed position, whilst, when in the open position, it becomes a comfortable and stable stool. It is eminently suitable for leisure activities or for use by people with certain physical disabilities.
Detailed description A typical example of the invention is shown in Figure 1, (open position).
Item lisa 'U' frame produced from a continuous piece of material, but could equally well be fabricated to produce the same result, with or without the radius at the top end. For extra stability the bottom ends may be splayed outwards.
Item 5 is a cross member suitably fixed in position to support the seat.
Item 9 is a cross member which holds the extreme ends of item 1 together, and adding strength to the assembly. This item is normally positioned a short distance from the ends so as to provide two separate 'feet', but if required could be positioned at the end to form a continuous cross-bar.
The second half of the framework is made up of two side members, item 6 is pivoted on 'U' frame 1 by suitable pivots 7. These side members are held together by top cross-arm 4 and bottom cross-arm 10. Item 10 is fitted as item 9 and the same alternative applies.
Items 6 and 4, or 6 and 10 may alternatively be made from a continuous piece of material.
Item 2 is the seat, made from canvas or any suitable material, and is suspended in the framework from cross-bars 5.
When the framework is produced as shown in Figure 1, suitable caps may be fixed on the six points at3and8.
As 8 is the base of the frame when used as a walking-stick, the caps at this point would be rubber or other suitable material.
At the top of the frame 1 a suitable sleeving or coating may be provided to improve holding comfort.
A further refinement is to arrange for the two halves of the frame to clip together when in the closed position.
The subject of this invention is a Walking-Stick which can be converted into a four-point contact stool or a stool having members giving the same effect as four-point contact.
