Fixed-chamber apparatus; with air control of level, with discharge by separate fluid; valve systems for; varying quantity measured in.-The apparatus comprises a closed measuring-vessel having an inlet valve, an adjustable air escape pipe, means for supplying compressed air to the vessel, and a discharge pipe extending from near the bottom of the vessel upwards towards the point of delivery, characterized by the discharge pipe being permanently open and arranged to allow liquid to drain back into the vessel when delivery ceases. The measuring-vessel is located in the bitumen-boiling tank 18 from which the molten bitumen enters the vessel through a valve 21, and rises to a height determined by a vertically adjustable pipe 14, the lower part of which is screwed into the chamber cover. At the top of this pipe is a two-way valve 10, 13 by which the pipe may be placed in communication with a compressed-air receiver 7 or with the atmosphere. A delivery pipe 25 passes through the chamber cover downwards to nearlv the bottom of the chamber, and is so inclined that liquid may drain back to the container. The pipe 14 is surrounded by a pipe 17 which is screwed to serve as a locknut for the pipe 14. The depth to which the pipe 14 is set is read off on a scale at the top of the pipe against the upper edge of the pipe 17. The supply pipe from the compressor to the receiver 7 is passed through the furnace to heat the air and a perforated plate 20 is fitted to act as a strainer for the molten bitumen.
