Abstract

A shoe or boot has an insole in which is embedded a low voltage electrical heating element. Power for the heating element is supplied by means of a 6 volt battery carried by the wearer in a harness and connected to the element by electrical leads extending along the outside of the wearers leg.

Description

SPECIFICATION Heated insoles for footwear The present invention relates to heated insoles for footwear such as shoes or boots which insole may be incorporated in the footwear during manufacture.
Persons working in cold conditions, for example temperture less than about 8"C (48"F) frequently suffer considerable discomfort from having cold feet and various types of footwear have been proposed in order to alleviate this problem.
I have now found a convenient way in which the feet of such a person may be retained warm which involves the use of an electrically heated insole contained within the foot wear powered by a low voltage battery.
Accordingly, therefore, the present invention provides an article of footwear including an insole having electrical heating elements imbedded therein and including means for connecting the insole to an electrical supply.
Preferably the insole forms an integral part of the footwear and is incorporated during the manufacture thereof.
The electrical supply may conveniently consist of a low voltage battery, for example a 6 volt battery, carried by the wearer on a harness or attached to a belt. The supply leads connecting to the battery with the insole extend along the outside of the wearers legs and inside trousers if worn.
One embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure lisa diagrammatic representation of an insole of the present invention, Figure2 is a diagrammatic illustration of a shoe incorporating the insole of Figure 1.
An insole 1 comprises a sealed sandwich construction consisting of upper and lower layers of flexible electrically resistant P.V.C. material 2 and 3 between which is contained low voltage electrical heating elements 4 spaced across the insole to provide a uniform heating thereover. The sides of the construction are sealed against the ingress of moisture.
Electrical leads 5 from the element extend from the insole to an electrical supply source (not shown).
As shown in Figure 2 the insole 1 may form part of a shoe comprising a upper 6, sole 7 and heel 8, the insole being incorporated between the upper and the sole 7 during manufacture of the shoe. The electrical leads 5 extend upwards on the outside of the shoe.
CLAIMS (Filed on 11 Dec 1981) 1. An article of footwear including an insole, electrical heating elements located within or below said insole and means for connecting the said heating elements to a supply of electricity.
2. An article of footwear according to claim 1 wherein the said elements are embedded in the insole which insole is an integral part of the footwear and is incorporated during the manufacture thereof.
3. An article of footwear according to claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the electrical supply comprises a low voltage battery carried by the wearer.
4. An article of footwear substantially as herein described with reference to the drawings.
