Abstract

Male urination into a w.c. pan 14 is facilitated by locating on the pan rim 13 a detachable upstanding plastics tube 1 having a support flange 10, the tube serving to raise the effective entry orifice 6. The upper end of the tube 1 has an internal flange 3 which defines the entry orifice 6 and from which depends an inner tubular wall (Fig. 1, not shown) forming a cylindrical urine guide extending two thirds of the way down the tube 1.

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in Water Closets This invention relates to water closets and has as an objective the provision of means which allow a water closet to be more easily used as a urinal particularly by an elderly or disabled man.
According to the present invention there is provided a guide structure which when placed on the rim of a water closet raises the effective entry orifice, and means allowing the said guide structure to be detachably engageable with said rim.
The guide structure, in an embodiment comprises a cylindrical body open at both ends with an external annular flange adjacent the lower end. The part of the body below the flange acts as a locating spigot protruding into the water closet and the lower surface of the flange rests on the upper surface of the rim. The bore in the upper region of the body preferably has a reduced cross section so that below this urine drips through an open region directly into the water closet without fouling the rim of the said closet or the locating spigot of the said guide structure.
A particular embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the following drawings: Figure I is a side view of the guide structure.
Figure II is an end view of the guide structure.
Figure III shows the guide structure in place on a water closet.
The guide structure 1 is a one-piece moulding from a plastics material, such as high density polythene, comprising a cylindrical body 2, an 'O' ring 3 extending radially inwards from the top 4 of the cylindrical body 2 to the top 5 of a cylindrical guide bore 7. The top 5 of the cylindrical guide bore 7 defines an entrance orifice 6. The cylindrical guide bore 7 extends down from the ring 3 inside and concentrically with the cylindrical body 2 having a lower end 8, 2/3 of the way down the cylindrical body sleeve from the ring 3. The guide bore lower end 8 defines an orifice 9 having a circular cross-section parallel to the ring 3. A flange 10 extends radially outwardly from the cylindrical body 2 close to the end 11 of the cylindrical body 2 extends below the flange 10 to define a locating spigot 12 at its lower end 11.
In use the locating spigot 12 is placed inside a water closet rim 13 allowing the flange 10 to sit on the water closet rim 13 in order to support the guide structure above the water closet 14. Any fluid entering the entrance orifice 6 is funnelled down into the water closet 1 4 by the guide sleeve 7. The guide structure 1 may be removed from the water closet when required and conveniently stood on a tray (not shown) near the water closet.
Claims
1. A guide structure which when placed on the rim of a water closet raises the effective entry orifice, and means allowing the said guide structure to be detachably engageable with said rim.
2. A guide structure as claimed in Claim 1 which comprises a body having a passage communicating between a first and second open end with an external flange adjacent the first open end lying in a plane which crosses the long axis of the passage, the part of the body between the flange and the first open end may act as a locating spigot protruding into a water closet surface of the flange facing the first open end resting on the upper surface of a water closet rim.
3. A guide structure as claimed in Claim 2 wherein the part of the passage extending from the second open end into the body has a reduced cross section.
4. A guide structure substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
