Abstract

208,622. Young, B. Nov. 4, 1922. Operating clutches.-In a machine for filling materials into receptacles, the feeding devices aredriven through a friction clutch controlled automatically or by a pedal. The material, contained in a hopper 2, falls into a revolving cylinder 3 surrounding a fixed worm 25 which feeds it into a nozzle 26 in which a worm 29, secured to a diametric arm 3<a> in the cylinder 3 by a screw b, rotates to force the material into a receptacle 27. The cylinder 3 is driven from a pulley 9 keyed upon a sleeve 10 which rotates a face-cam 17 through gears 13, 14, 15. During rotation, adjustably fixed runners 19, 19<a> contact with the raised portions of the cam, and force the cam and associated gears to the left against the action of a spring 12, causing the pulley 9 and frictionclutch 8 to engage. The shaft 7 is rotated, and drives the cylinder 3 through gears 6, 5. When a sunken part of the cam 17 registers with the runners 19, 19<a> the clutch is disengaged. By adjusting the runners the amount of feed is regulated. The runners 19, 19<a> may be dispensed with, and the parts 8, 9 put in gear by a pedal 38 through links 40 - - 43. A table 30, on which the receptacle rests, descends as the receptacle fills and a lever 33 carrying a depending arm 37 depresses the pedal 38 and releases a catch rod 45, a spring 44 throwing the mechanism out of gear.
