Abstract

208,483. Vanhulen, E. April 7, 1923, [Convention date]. Laminar springs.-In vehicle springs for motor cars, side-cars, motor cycles, and saddles of the kind comprising laminated springs having superposed leaves the ends of which are separately articulated to a common attaching member, the load, or the axle which supports it, is suspended from the attaching member at a single point such that the movement of the load causes a movement in inverse directions of some of the leaves relatively to the remaining leaf or leaves, such movement being limited between two positions beyond which the leaves act all in one direction. The leaves 5, 6, 8, Fig. 1, of the spring are articulated to bolts or pins 2, 3, 4 carried by side plates constituting the attaching member, which is pivoted to the chassis &c. by one of the bolts such as ,3 through an intermediate support. For loads less than the extreme, the outer leaves move in opposite directions as shown by the arrows, while the intermediate leaf is practically in a state of equilibrium. Under excessive load, the leaves tend to move in the same direction as shown by the arrows in Fig. 2. In a modification, the plates are replaced by a casing and the bolts are provided with bushes.
