Abstract
An extremely lightweight concrete mixture comprises not less than 40% by volume of expanded polystyrene beads. There may be present aggregate e.g. sand and dolomite limestone, reinforcing agent e.g. polypropylene mesh and plasticiser.
Description
SPECIFICATION
Floatcrete
Description
A Revolutionary Type of Concrete
1. A very high insulation property
2. Has a high impact strength
3. It floats
4. Its one third the weight of normal mixes
5. Easily cut drilled or moulded
6. Water absorption over twelve months test less than 0.6%
Analysis of Components
Weight Volume
Expanded polystyrene beads 4.7% 40% Polypropolene mesh 3.4% 4.5% Cement mortar 91.1% 55.5% Material density 0.7gms per cubic centimetre Analysis of Mortar
Portland cement 47.5% Sand 20%
Calcium carbonate 9.8% as CaCO3 Magnesium carbonate 1 3.4 % as MgCO3
Calcium carbonate/magnesium carbonate are present as aggregate as crushed dolomite limestone
Ratio of Components
Portland cement 1 1
Sand 0.4 0.3
Dolomite limestone 0.5 0.7
Mortar Mix Ratio
Crushed dolomite and sand mixed at the ratio of 7 to 1 then cement mortar is made from equal volumes of Portland cement and the dolomite/sand mixture size and type of polypropolene mesh can be varied to suit individual requirements.
