A diaper aid or liner which comprises alternate layers of water- repelling cloth (1,3) and water- absorbent cloth (2,4) there being at least two layers of each material, one surface layer being of water-repelling cloth and the other of water-absorbent cloth, and the layers being attached together at their edges. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Diaper aid or liner The present invention relates to a water-absorbing aid for diaper which can be applied harmlessly to both a new-born baby highly sensitive to skin disease and an infant less sensitive to skin disease, protecting them effectively from contamination of skin with urine discharged by themselves.
The present inventor earlier disclosed a similar aid for diaper which is a water-absorbing fabric like gauze as inserted between two sheets of waterrepelling cloth and had it registered as Japan Utility Model No. 981939.
The water-repelling cloth in this aid serves as a spacer to keep a baby's skin from direct contact with the urine absorbed on a cotton diaper. Use of this aid would pose no trouble with an infant more than three months old who is supposed to have developed a certain resistance to skin disease, but with a new-born baby or an infant less than three months old, use of a water-repelling cloth made of a synthetic textile is controversial: a long contact of such a cloth with the skin will cause a frequent urination; especially in summer when a cotton diaper is directly applied to the skin, a slight skin disease such as an eruption develops on the skin, irritated by the diaper, though rarely.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a water-absorbing aid for diaper which can swiftly absorb urine or any other water content of a cotton diaper and keep the skin dry of a new-born baby scarcely resistant to skin disease or an infant more than three months old who has developed some resistance to skin disease, thereby protecting them from skin disease.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a water-absorbing aid for diaper, a single piece of which can be selectively applied, depending on the baby's resistance to skin disease.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a water-absorbing aid for diaper, which can protect a baby's skin from contact with urine or any other water content absorbed on a cotton diaper.
This invention thus provides a diaper aid or liner which comprises alternate layers of water-repelling cloth and water-absorbent cloth, there being at least two layers of each material, one surface layer being of water-repelling cloth and the other of waterabsorbent cloth, and the layers being attached together at their edges. The water-repelling cloth may be a finely woven nylon, e.g. nylon tricot, and the water absorbent cloth may be cotton gauze or another rapidly drying fabric.
in the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a partial fragmentary oblique view of one embodiment of the present invention and Figure 2 illustrates an application of it.
Example of embodiment In Figures 1 and 2 is shown a diaper aid (A), which represents an assembly of (1 ) nylon tricot, (2) cotton gauze, (3) nylon tricot and (4) cotton gauze superposed one over another and mechanically sewn together at the fringes.
In the application of this diaper aid (A) to a new-born baby or to an infant less than three months old, said aid (A) is laid out in contact with the skin on the cotton diaper (5) and, as illustrated in Figure 2, it is applied together with a diaper cover (6).
When a baby thus swaddled urinates, most of the urine will be very swiftly absorbed on the cotton gauze (4) and the rest of urine will be filtered through the nylon tricot (3) and absorbed by the cotton gauze (2) on the outside, the rest, if any, being filtered through the outertricot (1) and absorbed by the outer cotton diaper (5).
The urine once absorbed by the cotton diaper (5) will never backflow to come into contact with the baby's skin by virtue of the action of the nylon tricot (1) (3) which serves to separate the baby's skin from the cotton diaper (5). The baby's skin is indirect contact with the cotton gauze (2) (4), which rapidly dries up by the baby's body temperature.
Thus during the baby's urination, the urine overflows the cotton gauze (2) (4) and reaches the bottom most cotton diaper (5), to be absorbed thereby, just as in the use of a conventional cotton diaper alone.
After the urination, the drops of urine remaining on the baby's skin and the drops collecting between the cotton gauze (2) and the tricot (1) (3) will be rapidly carried to the cotton diaper (5) by the water absorption on the dry part of the cotton gauze (2) and by the capillary action of the tricot (1 ) (3) and no urine will be left on the skin.
Though the urine is completely removed from the skin, the skin may stay transiently wet on account of ovesaturation of the cotton gauze (2), but this wet state of the skin will vanish in about one minute accordng to an experiment, restoring a near-dry condition of the skin.
In the application of the diaper aid (A) to an infant more than three months old, the tricot (4) is placed on top; that is, it is laid out on the cotton diaper (5) in such manner that it comes into contact with the infant's skin and, as illustrated in Figure 2, it is coupled with a diaper cover (6).
When the infant thus swaddled urinates, the urine will get absorbed by the cotton diaper (5) by the same action as described above, the only difference from the preceding case being that since the infant's skin is in contact with the tricot (4) and accordingly the capillary action of the cotton gauze (3) and the effect of the tricot (4) as a spacer work at the same time, the near-dry condition of the area in contact with the skin will come sooner.
In either of the above-mentioned two cases, it has been experimentally revealed that at least two sets of cotton gauze-tricot combinations to separate the skin from the cotton diaper will be necessary for the purpose of drying up the cotton gauze and tricot which come into contact with the skin as soon as possible.
When the diaper aid according to the present invention is employed, the urine or other water content can be swiftly absorbed through a combined effect of the capillary action of a water-repelling cloth, its spacer effect; the filtering ability of cotton gauze; and the body temperature, with no likelihood of the absorbed water seeping out on the skin. When the top side and the back side of a single piece of this diaper aid are selectively applied to a new-born baby and an infant less than three months old who are highly liable to skin disease; and to an infant more than three months old who is less sensitive to skin disease, the urine after discharged can be swiftly removed without causing any skin disease and the area of cloth directly in contact with the skin can be brought to a near-dry condition in a short time.
Thus the diaper aid according to the present invention has an unprecedented merit in that a single piece of the diaper aid can be selectively applied to a child from the new-born stage until he outgrows the diaper, economically with no waste, thereby enhancing his health condition.
