<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Brief for incontinent persons.
This invention relates to a brief, more particularly a washable and reusable brief, for incontinent persons, both children and adults.
More specifically, the invention relates to a slip provided with an absorbent portion for absorbing the urine, and liquid-tight coating applied to the outside of the slip.
The object of the invention is to provide a slip which is particularly hygienic, easy to wear and inconspicuous to be worn by the user and which retains the absorbed urine in the absorbent material in all circumstances.
Although the invention could in principle also be applied in disposable briefs, it is primarily intended for briefs that are washable and can thus be used repeatedly.
For this purpose, the invention consists of a brief for incontinent persons, both children and adults, of the type that is washable and reusable, this brief being provided with an absorbent part and a liquid-tight covering applied on the outside thereof, characterized in that at least in the lower part of the slip a channel-shaped guide is formed by means of liquid-tight parts which adjoin the above-mentioned coating and which surround the absorbent part in the form of covers over a certain distance.
The aforementioned channel formation avoids that, in the event that there is a fairly large amount of urine in it
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
bottom portion of the brief, this urine is forced out through the leg openings when the absorbent portion in the bottom portion of the brief is compressed, for example, when the wearer sets down. The channel formation ensures that the urine can only escape upwards where there is always enough absorbent material to collect the urine.
According to another feature of the invention, at least at the area in which an absorbing effect is to be realized, the slip is built up from a layer structure which consists at least from the inside outwards of a liquid-permeable layer, a layer functioning as a spacer, which air cushion provides a water-absorbing layer, a layer of absorbent material, more special water-absorbing material, and a liquid-tight layer. This specific layer structure offers the advantage that a large amount of urine can be absorbed into the absorbent material without the wearer of the slip acquiring an uncomfortable feeling. The liquid-permeable cover, which is preferably made of cotton, ensures that the contact of the inner side of the briefs against the skin does not cause an unpleasant feeling.
The layer acting as a spacer ensures that the absorbed urine is at a distance from the skin, minimizing the wet feeling. The water-absorbing layer ensures that practically no urine remains in the aforementioned liquid-permeable coating and in the layer functioning as a spacer. The absorbent material provides the actual absorption. The waterproof cover prevents urine from passing through to normal clothing.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Preferably, but not necessarily, the aforementioned channel formation and layer structure are combined in one and the same slip.
With the insight to better demonstrate the features according to the invention, a preferred embodiment is described below without any limiting character, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: figure 1 shows a brief according to the invention; figure 2 is a larger-scale section according to line II-II in figure 1; figure 3 represents a cross section according to line III-III in figure 2 on an even larger scale; figure 4 shows on a larger scale a section according to line IV-IV in figure 1.
As shown in figure 1, the invention relates to a slip 1.
As shown in the cross sections of Figures 2 to 4, this is a slip 1 for incontinent persons, for which purpose this slip 1 is provided for this purpose with an absorbing part 2, in which an amount of urine can be collected.
The urine can penetrate into the absorbent part 2 from the inside, but is prevented from the outside to escape by means of a liquid-tight layer 3.
The special feature of the invention consists in that a channel-shaped guide 5 is formed at least in the lower part 4 of the slip 1 by means of liquid-tight parts 6-7 connecting to the aforementioned layer 3 and
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
surrounding the absorbent part 2 in the form of envelopes. The sections 6-7 are preferably connected to the aforementioned layer 3 by means of stitched seams 8 and 9. It is clear that these seams can also be welded or glued. According to a variant not shown in the figures, the parts 6-7 can also be formed in one piece with the layer 3, this layer 3 then being turned inwards to form the parts 6-7 along the edges of the absorbent part 2.
The sections 6-7 are preferably in the form of strips, as indicated in Figure 1.
In order to keep the parts 6-7 in place, they are mutually connected, for instance by means of a liquid-permeable layer 10, such as a cotton fabric. This layer 10 is attached to sections 6-7 by seams 11-12.
The sections 6-7 preferably consist of a fabric 13 which is provided with a waterproof covering 14. More particularly, it is preferred that cotton, in particular so-called interlock, is used for this purpose, which is coated on one side with plastic, preferred polyurethane. The cover 14 is on the side of the absorbent material 2.
The aforementioned liquid-tight layer 3 preferably consists of a fabric 15 of polyester or polyamide, which is provided with a coating 16, for instance of plastic, preferably also polyurethane. In this case, too, the coating 16 faces the absorbent material 2.
The absorbent part 2 is preferably composed of a layer package which is at least from the inside outwards
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
consists of a layer 17 which functions as a spacer and which provides an air cushion, a water-drawing layer 18 and a layer 19 of the actual absorbing material.
The layers 17, 18 and 19 preferably all consist of a non-woven material.
The layer 17 is formed from a very airy package of fibers, such that this package forms, as it were, an air cushion. For this layer 17, use can be made of the product which is commercially available under the name "POLYSTAR AB1". Preferably an amount of 60 to 150 g / m2 will be used.
The layer 18 sucks the water, in particular the urine, as it were, but does not retain it, but leads it further to the layer 19. The layers 18 and 19 can be designed as a composite product. Such a composite product is available as a special production, including under the name "ABSORBIL", with the specific property of 250,300 or 500 g / m2 ".
The aforementioned channel-shaped guide 5, with the absorbent material 2 present therein, preferably extends in height and only over a specific width B at the front 20 and rear 21. This is achieved by having the sections 6-7 continue in height substantially parallel to each other, preferably up to the top edge of the slip 1.
The fact that the absorbent material 2 is present only over a certain width B has the advantage that the side parts 22-23 of the slip 1 remain relatively thin, so that it is hardly or not noticeable that a person wears such slip 1.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
At the location of the lower portion 4, the width B1 over which the sections 6-7 extend is preferably of the order of 2 cm, while the full width B2 of each of the sections 6-7 is of the order of magnitude of 10 cm.
The side parts 22-23 can be formed by a layer which, analogous to the parts 6 and 7, is formed from a fabric 24, preferably cotton, which is provided with a liquid-tight coating 25, preferably from plastic, for instance polyurethane. These side parts 22-23 are stitched, glued or welded to the other parts, inter alia by means of seams 26-27.
For the sake of comfort, the side portions 22-23 with the fabric sides face inward.
A covering layer 28, for example of polyester, can be applied to the outside of the slip.
Elastic bands 29-30-31 can be provided on the top edge of the slip 1, as well as around the leg openings, on the one hand to hold up the slip 1, and on the other hand to provide a seal around the legs.
It is clear that when a compressive force is exerted on the bottom part 4 and thus when the absorbent part 2 is compressed, for instance at the moment when the wearer puts down such slip 1, the urine possibly present in the bottom part 4 is due to the presence of the liquid-tight sections 6-7 cannot escape laterally and is forced to move vertically, as indicated by arrows M and N in Figure 1, where sufficient absorbent material 2 is present to absorb the urine.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
The present invention is by no means limited to the exemplary embodiment shown in the figures, but such slips can be realized in different shapes and sizes without departing from the scope of the invention.
