Abstract

Cable wires connected to respective contacts in a contact unit are individually tested by plugging a connector device having tabs 2a corresponding to the number of contacts, and thus wires to be tested, into the contact unit. Each tab 2a terminates in a contact spring 2b which forms a break contact with a common metal bar 3 having clamping springs 3a at each end which make contact with the metallic receiving trough of the contact unit so that all the contact springs when contacting the metal bar are at a common potential. To test a cable wire, the tap-off plug of a test lead is inserted through opening 4 to isolate the respective contact spring from the common potential. <IMAGE>

Description

1
SPECIFICATION
A connector device The present invention relates to a connector 70 device for use when testing a cable wire relative to all other cable wires connected to contacts in a contact element.
It is frequently necessary to test within a contact element one cable wire relative to all 75 other cable wires.
The present invention is based on the object of providing a test means in the form of a connector device which permits the carrying out of frequently occuring test operations.
According to the invention a connector de vice for use when testing a cable wire relative to all other cable wires connected to a contact element is characterized in that within the connector device which is formed as an upper part and lower part there are mounted ele ments the lower portions of which form con tact springs whose number corresponds to the contacts in the contact element, and in which the contact point of each contact spring en gages a metal bar thus forming a break con tact.
With the connector device to be described it is possible to tap the wire to be tested so that it can be connected to a measuring instrument via a test lead. All remaining cable wires may be connected to a common potential.
It is also possible to use with the connector device tap-off plugs employed with the con tact element.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a front view of the connector GB 2 083 294A 1 The upper portion 6 of the connector upper part is formed like the upper part of the contact element and is adapted to receive through an opening 4, a tap-off plug of the type normally used with the contact element.
Upon insertion of the connector into a contact element and upon insertion of a tap-off plug the respective wire will be insulated from the common potential and will be connected to the test lead so that tests can be carried out.

Claims (5)

1. A connector device for use when test- ing a cable wire relative to all other cable wires connected to a contact element, characterized in that within the connector device which is fromed as an upper part and a lower part there are mounted elements the lower portions of which form tabs and the upper portions of which form contact springs whose number corresponds to the contacts in the contact element, and in which the contact point of each contact spring engages a metal bar thus forming a break contact.
2. A connector device according to Claim 1 characterized in that a clamping spring is provided at each end of the metal bar.
3. A connector device according to Claim 1 characterized in that the upper part of the connector includes an opening.
4. A connector device according to Claim 1 characterized in that the upper part and the lower part are secured to one another by means of a longitudinally extending snap means.
5. A connector device for the purpose specified comprising the combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinbe- device according to the present invention; and 105 fore described with reference to the accompa- Figure la is a sectional side view of Fig. 1.
As will be apparent from Fig. 1, the connector device has a lower part 1 b formed from plastics material and which carries tabs 2a whose number corresponds to the number of contacts in the contact element. These tabs in use, are plugged into the insertion opening of the contact element.
As will be apparent from Fig. 1 a, the upper portion of each element 2 is formed as a contact spring 2b the contact point 2c of which is in engagement with a metal bar 3.
Thus the contact springs 2b together with the metal bar 3 form a break contact. At each end of the metal bar 3 is provided with a claimping spring 3a which when the connector device 1 is inserted will make an electrical connection with the metallic receiving trough of the contact element and will thus connect all the wires connected to the contacts of the contact element to the potential applied to the receiving trough.
The lower part 1 b of the connector device 1 is secured to the upper part 1 a by a snap means 5 which extends longitudinally.
