Abstract

This method is used for production of isoprene which serves as a raw material for synthetic rubber. The method consists in reacting isobutylene with an aqueous solution of formaldehyde within the interval of temperatures of 60 to 90`C, at a pressure of 6 to 18 atm and in the presence of a salt of polysulphonic acid of formula R(SO<u3>uH)n as an acid catalyst, where n is an integer equal to 2 or 3, R is a C<u1>u-C<u4>u alkyl or unsubstituted phenyl or substituted phenyl, and a metal of groups I and II of the periodic system or a mixture of that salt with sulphonic acid.
