Abstract
207,852. Western Electric Co., Ltd., (Western Electric Co., Inc.). Sept. 1, 1922. Current-direction indicators. -Opposite directions of energy flow in a line are distinguished by alterning the characteristic between the two spaced points in the line and balancing the energy derived from one point against that derived from the other. The Figure shows relays in a telephone repeater station which are caused to distinguish between opposite directions of energy flow by the insertion of attenuating networks 21, 22 in the line. Each relay is provided with two windings 15, 16 so arranged that energy appearing in the line L, W causes winding 15 to predominate over winding 16 and close contact 11, while energy appearing in line L, E will close contact 12. Electromagnets 5 - - 8 are controlled by the contacts 11, 12 and operate switches 1 - - 4 which connect the input 32 of the repeater R to the incoming line and the output 33 to the outgoing line.
