Abstract

207,757. Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., and Penfold, A. E. July 1, 1922. Drawings to Specification. Moulding gutta-percha golf balls.-Consists in causing a warm solution of gutta percha &c. to assume the desired shape and then chilling it, and has particular reference to the manufacture of guta-percha and/or balata with or without of gutta-percha and for balata with or without the addition of rubber, such as is described in Specification 198,715. The warm solution is poured into a mould containing the core, protected if necessary by a previously applied thin coating of gutta-percha, and the gutta-percha is then precipitated by chilling to a temperature of about 35‹ F., the temperature varying according to the solvent used. Alternatively, hemispherical cups of gutta-percha for subsequent application to tht core may be formed either by casting in moulds and chilling or by dipping a former in the warm solution and chilling. In another method, the core is dipped in the warm solution and chilled. The ball is finally moulded under pressure in the usual manner.
