Bottling.-Relates to machines for supplying measured quantities of milk &c. to bottles and of the type which can be adjusted to suit bottles of different heights, the bottle-rests being raised by cams &c. to bring the bottle mouths into the correct position for filling and the bottles being automatically conveyed to and delivered from the machine. The supply tank D is secured by a clamp b to the top of a sleeve B which surounds the central pillar A and is rotated by worm gearing c, C from the driving-shaft K<1>. The tank bears on the top of a vertical shaft A<2> the lower end a of which is screwed and engages a stationary nut a<1> on the framing so that by loosening the clamp B and turning the handwheel A<1> on the lower end of the shaft the tank can be raised or lowered to suit bottles of different sizes. The spindles f of the holders F are carried in bearings on a plate or table F<1> at the lower part of the sleeve B and are normally held in the upper position by means of springs f<1> in the bearings. The runners f<3> are fixed to the bottoms of the spindles and are actuated by the cam surface G to move the spindles and holders downwards for releasing the bottles after filling. The endless feed-conveyer H is of the flat-top type with a flat plate on each link. The plates run between angle-iron guides h<2>, and the conveyer is driven through chain gearing A and bevel gearing k<2>, k<3> from the shaft K<1>. Stationary curved guides L, L<1> are arranged above the conveyer to guide the bottles to and from the holders F, which are provided on their flat tops with upstanding ledges f<2> extending round the trailing sides of the holders to assist the bottles on to and from the holders. The filling-valves d attached to the underside of the tank D are connected to the measuring-vessels d<1> by hollow spindles d<2> having conical guide-cups d<3> at their lower parts for the bottle mouths. As the bottle is raised, the valve d and vessel d<1> are lifted until the top of the latter is above the level of the liquid in the tank D whereupon the valve d opens and the milk &c. in the vessel d<1> flows into the bottle.
