Abstract

A beam (1, 1') comprising a web (2, 2') and flanges (3, 3', 3'') extending from the web (2, 2') The beam according to the invention may have, for example, I-, C- or Z-shaped cross-section. The beam according to the invention is characterized in that the central longitudinal portion of the web (2, 2') shows embossments or profilations (4, 4'), preferably of trapezoid shape. The material thickness, besides, in the portions (5) adjoining to the flanges (3, 3', 3'') is at least twice as great as the material thickness of the embossed or profilated portion.
