Abstract

A bag 58 for contaminated laundry is formed of a hydrophobic or water-insoluble sheet material, the edges of a medial slit in a bag wall 20a being joined or bridged by an overlying layer of water-soluble or water-dispersible material 26 secured to the sheet material by strips of adhesive 38a, 38b. When a bag containing laundry and sealed at its top is placed in a washing machine which is caused to perform its normal washing cycle the water-soluble material dissolves, or the water- dispersible material disperses, to allow the edges to define an aperture through which the bag is emptied of its contents. In a method of forming a bag 58, Fig. 3, a gusseted tube is slit longitudinally and the slit edges overlapped as a result of pressure applied to the gussets by spring arms 47, 48, before the strip 26 is applied to the overlapped edges. <IMAGE>
